Week 38 Review: Jane Doe

From Goodreads:
A double life with a single purpose: revenge.

Jane's days at a Minneapolis insurance company are perfectly ordinary. She blends in well, unremarkably pretty in her floral-print dresses and extra efficient at her low-level job. She's just the kind of woman middle manager Steven Hepsworth likes—meek, insecure, and willing to defer to a man. No one has any idea who Jane really is. Least of all Steven.

But plain Jane is hiding something. And Steven's bringing out the worst in her.

Nothing can distract Jane from going straight for his heart: allowing herself to be seduced into Steven's bed, to insinuate herself into his career and his family, and to expose all his dirty secrets. It's time for Jane to dig out everything that matters to Steven. So she can take it all away.

Just as he did to her.

My Review:
This book was so fantastic! It was dark and twisted, given that the main character is a sociopath who is getting revenge, but oh, so delicious to read! I enjoyed it so much! Besides being a story of revenge, it also is a bit of a commentary on our culture, that women make themselves smaller so that men can feel larger. Yeah.

It's funny, but Steven isn't evil. He's something of a monster in regards to the romantic interest in his life, spurring from insecurities from his mom cheating on his dad. But otherwise, he seems a fairly decent person. It's just that in this one area, he's extremely awful, and I have no idea if he knows it or not.

They were both manipulating each other. Though Jane was much better at it, because that's basically what she's been doing her entire life. And she went into this playing a role, so she could get her revenge. Inserting herself into his life, first at work, then his church, his family, his home, trying to find his weaknesses. Oh, boy, she found them all right!

I had no idea how she'd take her revenge. She was open to anything that hurt him as much as he hurt her and her friend. And we almost went down one path, but I'm glad that she chose the one that she did, because that definitely caused a lot of trauma!

This book was a fantastic read, and I can't wait for the sequel!
