Week 41 Reviews: The Alloy of Law, Allomancer Jak and the Pits of Eltania

From Goodreads:
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson, the Mistborn series is a heist story of political intrigue and magical, martial-arts action.

Three hundred years after the events of the Mistborn trilogy, Scadrial is now on the verge of modernity, with railroads to supplement the canals, electric lighting in the streets and the homes of the wealthy, and the first steel-framed skyscrapers racing for the clouds.

Kelsier, Vin, Elend, Sazed, Spook, and the rest are now part of history--or religion. Yet even as science and technology are reaching new heights, the old magics of Allomancy and Feruchemy continue to play a role in this reborn world. Out in the frontier lands known as the Roughs, they are crucial tools for the brave men and women attempting to establish order and justice.

One such is Waxillium Ladrian, a rare Twinborn, who can Push on metals with his Allomancy and use Feruchemy to become lighter or heavier at will. After twenty years in the Roughs, Wax has been forced by family tragedy to return to the metropolis of Elendel. Now he must reluctantly put away his guns and assume the duties and dignity incumbent upon the head of a noble house. Or so he thinks, until he learns the hard way that the mansions and elegant tree-lined streets of the city can be even more dangerous than the dusty plains of the Roughs.

From Goodreads:
Allomancer Jak and the Pits of Eltania is a short story about an adventuring Allomancer named Jak, as told by him and edited by his Terrisman steward, Handerwym.

My Review:
Oh, man, it was so fantatic to read these stories! I loved the original Mistborn trilogy, and I was so excited to see how things would go from there, and I wasn't disappointed! I loved getting to know Wax and Wayne, and seeing how the world has changed in the 300 years since Vin, Elend and Sazed! And I enjoyed this book more than The Way of Kings, but that's because I'm not a primarily epic fantasy reader, this series is more to my tastes. I still enjoyed WoK, but I want to continue with this series more.

I love the idea of this series, that it's in the same world as the original trilogy, but in the future, with technological advancements. Plus the changes from the end of The Hero of Ages. It's such a fascinating idea! Seeing Allomancy but with guns was such an interesting concept. Plus, this series wasn't originally planned, and when it started, it was only going to be Mistborn Era 1.5. But it was a bigger story than that, so I'm glad that we're getting these 4 books!

Getting to know Wax and Wayne was so great. Wax is a detective, with a bit of a scientist inside of him. And Wayne, well, he has a weird sense of logic, and he's a pretty great method actor, would be what I'd describe as his rolls that he sometimes plays to fulfill a task. I loved their friendship and teamwork!

This whole plot with abduction and theft was interesting to read. It was a driving factor, but it wasn't the most interesting part of the book until the end, with the reveal of who was paying for it all to happen, something that looks like it'll be an overarching plot for the series, and I can't wait for it to continue!

I was a little confused as to who the Lord Mistborn was, as well as Ironeyes. But reading the annotations and searching the web, said that Lord Mistborn was Spook, and Ironeyes was Marsh. So I'm glad that the question of Marsh surviving was answered, and I think as well the kandra were mentioned as serving Harmony (also known as Sazed.) And having Spook be the Lord Mistborn, well, that makes it funny, because he inserted his old way of talking, to make it the high nobility language. And I just find that hilarious!

Allomancer Jak was a really fun read. I loved the little narration asides from his Terrisman steward, Handerwym, because Jak is really improbably and misinformation, and Handerwym is so sarcastic and it was so great to read! Plus we learn how the koloss reproduce now, how someone in this world can have koloss blood, given how we learned they were created in The Hero of Ages. Well, apparently Sazed changed that. So it was really great to read that short storY!

These were such great reads, I enjoyed them so much, and I can't wait to continue the series!
