Week 23 Review: Book of Night

From Goodreads:
Holly Black makes her adult debut with Book of Night, a modern dark fantasy of shadowy thieves and secret societies.

In Charlie Hall's world, shadows can be altered, for entertainment and cosmetic preferences—but also to increase power and influence. You can alter someone's feelings—and memories—but manipulating shadows has a cost, with the potential to take hours or days from your life. Your shadow holds all the parts of you that you want to keep hidden—a second self, standing just to your left, walking behind you into lit rooms. And sometimes, it has a life of its own.

Charlie is a low-level con artist, working as a bartender while trying to distance herself from the powerful and dangerous underground world of shadow trading. She gets by doing odd jobs for her patrons and the naive new money in her town at the edge of the Berkshires. But when a terrible figure from her past returns, Charlie's present life is thrown into chaos, and her future seems at best, unclear—and at worst, non-existent. Determined to survive, Charlie throws herself into a maelstrom of secrets and murder, setting her against a cast of doppelgängers, mercurial billionaires, shadow thieves, and her own sister—all desperate to control the magic of the shadows.

My Review:
Oh, this was a fantastic read! I've really enjoyed every other Holly Black book that I've read, and I was looking forward to her adult debut, it sounded really great! And I had such a great time reading it, it was really interesting!

If there's one thing that I didn't like, it was that it just kept mentioned that Charlie makes bad decisions. Like, it was her only personality trait. It just kept getting mentioned, like we didn't get it the first 50 times. So that was a bit annoying, and that Charlie didn't have much else going on as a character.

This world with the power of shadows, was just so intriguing! What we learned about it was really intriguing, and I would love to explore more. When you add in the mystery, there was a good balance of things going on in this book to keep it interesting!

The way things ended, I'm really hoping that this becomes a series, because I want more, because it just can't end there! So much happened in this book, but not all of it was resolved in a permanent manor, and that ending has me needing more!

Really enjoyed this book, and I really hope that we get a sequel!
