Calder White lives in the cold, clear waters of Lake Superior, the only brother in a family of murderous mermaids. To survive, Calder and his sisters prey on humans, killing them to absorb their energy. But this summer the underwater clan targets Jason Hancock out of pure revenge. They blame Hancock for their mother's death and have been waiting a long time for him to return to his family's homestead on the lake. Hancock has a fear of water, so to lure him in, Calder sets out to seduce Hancock's daughter, Lily. Easy enough—especially as Calder has lots of practice using his irresistable good looks and charm on ususpecting girls. Only this time Calder screws everything up: he falls for Lily—just as Lily starts to suspect that there's more to the monsters-in-the-lake legends than she ever imagined. And just as his sisters are losing patience with him.
My Review:
I just loved this book all over again! Just as good as the first time, if an edition that wasn't as good as the first time, that didn't affect the story. And what a great story at that! This book is just so freaking good and loveable!
I love Calder and Lily's sense of humour, like the one joke Calder has with himself that the Hancocks were going to kill them with boredom, or just in general Lily's sarcastic streak! It was just so much fun to watch them interact, too, together, pushing Calder away, and back again!
Again, I totally love this cover! It's just so pretty, wonderful, and mesmerising, and it catches the eye, and it's something that's hard to forget, because it's just plain beautiful and interesting and a bit creepy, but so freaking good!
The thing with Jack, that built up, well, it added to the plot, because it's going to be something else, and how he's connected to this all, I kinda felt sorry for him, but in the end, he wasn't the nicest person, so he kinda deserved what he's going to get!
I just absolutely loved this book, and I can't wait to reread Deep Betrayal and read Promise Bound!!!
