Week 7 Review: The Shadow Queen

From Goodreads:
Lorelai Diederich, crown princess and fugitive at large, has one mission: kill the wicked queen who took both the Ravenspire throne and the life of her father. To do that, Lorelai needs to use the one weapon she and Queen Irina have in common—magic. She'll have to be stronger, faster, and more powerful than Irina, the most dangerous sorceress Ravenspire has ever seen.

In the neighboring kingdom of Eldr, when Prince Kol’s father and older brother are killed by an invading army of magic-wielding ogres, the second-born prince is suddenly given the responsibility of saving his kingdom. To do that, Kol needs magic—and the only way to get it is to make a deal with the queen of Ravenspire, promise to become her personal huntsman…and bring her Lorelai's heart.

But Lorelai is nothing like Kol expected—beautiful, fierce, and unstoppable—and despite dark magic, Lorelai is drawn in by the passionate and troubled king. Fighting to stay one step ahead of the dragon huntsman—who she likes far more than she should—Lorelai does everything in her power to ruin the wicked queen. But Irina isn't going down without a fight, and her final move may cost the princess the one thing she still has left to lose.

My Review:
I enjoyed this book so much! It was so great, so well written, it was entertaining, and it was unique! Loved reading this retelling of Snow White, it was fantastic, and that it's by C.J. Redwine just means all the more, because it was so good!

There were two things about this book that I thoroughly enjoyed. The first, how the story of Snow White was retold, and changed, that was fantastic, and so interesting to read! Like Kol, the Dragon King who becomes the huntsman, and yet doesn't carry out Irina's command. The other was the magic, and of taking control of hearts, both human, animal, and the kingdom, and the incantors! So interesting!

Lorelai  was a really fantastic character! She was smart, strong, brave, and she endured so many losses, but she kept going for the good of the kingdom, considering others before herself. And Kol was fantastic, someone who hid behind a carefree irresponsible façade, and was hurt that people couldn't see past it. But he was also a great leader-from trapping his headmaster in his toilet closet, to coming up with the solution of the ogre problem!

Loved that ending! They won, but there are still some things to be faced, whether they know it or not-this is a series, after all! And it was a nice note to end on, happy, and victorious. Makes me a bit sad it's a series, since I want to keep them from pain, but also excited because then we get more!

Really fantastic book, so enjoyable, and I can't wait for it to come out for others to enjoy it, and the sequel!
