Week 9 Review: Firstlife

From Goodreads:
ONE CHOICE.

TWO REALMS.

NO SECOND CHANCE.

Tenley "Ten" Lockwood is an average seventeen-year-old girl…who has spent the past thirteen months locked inside the Prynne Asylum. The reason? Not her obsession with numbers, but her refusal to let her parents choose where she'll live—after she dies.

There is an eternal truth most of the world has come to accept: Firstlife is merely a dress rehearsal, and real life begins after death.

In the Everlife, two realms are in power: Troika and Myriad, longtime enemies and deadly rivals. Both will do anything to recruit Ten, including sending their top Laborers to lure her to their side. Soon, Ten finds herself on the run, caught in a wild tug-of-war between the two realms who will do anything to win the right to her soul. Who can she trust? And what if the realm she's drawn to isn't home to the boy she's falling for? She just has to stay alive long enough to make a decision…

My Review:
Gah, this book! It was so fantastic, so enjoyable, and yeah, another terrific Gena Showalter book! What's not to love? Ten was such a fantastic character, as well as Killian and Archer. I just loved reading about them!

To start off, you really should know about this world. That there are two lives, a Firstlife, here on Earth, and then a Secondlife, where you signed (or didn't) in your Firstlife-Troika and Myriad, and the the really awful place for people who don't sign. And Troika and Myriad are opposites, light and dark, truth and anything goes, work and play, choice and fate, second death means gone forever and second death means fusing with a new soul and being born again.

They both have their pluses and minuses, but the whole idea that basically the only worthwhile thing you can do in your life is choosing where you're going to sign, it kinda sucks. Firstlife should and can mean so much more than that! And that kids pretty much always sign with the same side that their parents did, and that at least for Myriad, that parents contracts depend on their kids...yeah, it sucks!

I really enjoyed the emails, they gave us a look into who Killian and Archer were, especially since Archer's appearance is as Bow, in a girl Shell. He's still the same person, but it's a little disconcerting! But so enjoyable to read!

We need to learn more about Killian, because all we really know is that he has an accent, he signed with Myraid, so he thinks that his mom's soul is fused with someone else's, but he doesn't know who, and he used to be best friends with Archer.

Speaking of Archer, I'm wondering, did he have a Firstlife? Seeing who his dad is and all, was he just born as a spirit, no body? And that he only got that life, with the ending in this book being what it is, well, that's something that I hope is important!

Such a fantastic book, from her crazy aunt Luna and the song that became so important, that the hell of the unsigned is connected to Myriad and those unsigned souls are pretty much trapped, the war between Troika and Myriad, that killer ending of this book, well, I just can't wait for Lifeblood!
