Joe Sunday has been a Los Angeles low-life for years, but his life gets a whole lot lower when he is killed by the rival of his crime boss-only to return as a zombie. His only hope is to find and steal a talisman that he learns can grant immortality. But, unfortunately for Joe, every other undead thug and crime boss in Los Angeles is looking for the same thing.
My Review:
I loved reading this book! It was published before the Eric Carter series, but I've been reading that first, and I knew I had to read this one, because Joe and others are there for a brief but important part at the beginning of book 6, I believe? So I had to read this one, and I had such a great time!
That Joe is a zombie is not something that's really been explored in the main series. I mean, Eric is a necromancer, but zombies aren't really his thing. So I really enjoyed watching Joe's story, of dealing with being dead and trying to make the best of his situation.
I wasn't sure, going in, if Joe was a part of the paranormal world from the beginning, or if he was normal, but a thug working for a crime boss, and ends up in the paranormal world, which is different from Eric who was born into it. So I enjoyed seeing where that went!
The search for this talisman that might help him, but everybody else is after it for various reasons, yeah, it was so much fun! Joe is not opposed to using violence to get his way, and it's a dark humor sort of thing, which seems to be part of Stephen Blackmoore's writing. But oh, I had a really great time seeing where this story went!
This was a fantastic read and I can't wait to read more by Stephen Blackmoore!
