Monday Charles is missing, and only Claudia seems to notice. Claudia and Monday have always been inseparable—more sisters than friends. So when Monday doesn't turn up for the first day of school, Claudia's worried. When she doesn't show for the second day, or second week, Claudia knows that something is wrong. Monday wouldn't just leave her to endure tests and bullies alone. Not after last year's rumors and not with her grades on the line. Now Claudia needs her best—and only—friend more than ever. But Monday's mother refuses to give Claudia a straight answer, and Monday's sister April is even less help.
As Claudia digs deeper into her friend's disappearance, she discovers that no one seems to remember the last time they saw Monday. How can a teenage girl just vanish without anyone noticing that she's gone?
My Review:
Oh, man, this story! It was such a fantastic read, and I just couldn't put it down! I was a little confused as to the timeline, because it jumps around a lot, and keeping track of what was happening when was a little confusing, but it made sense in the end, and that choice was a big part of this story, which I loved!
This was just a fantastic story about how many Black girls go missing, teenagers, and nobody really noticing or caring. I felt so bad for Monday and Claudia, Monday, because she's missing and nobody seems to care, besides Claudia, who doesn't have much of a voice besides her family.
I loved Claudia's family, they were really tight knit, and a good contrast to Monday's family. Loved how close they were, and how loving. They were supportive, and while they sometimes doubtful, they still supported Claudia, and that was so great to read!
But that ending? That was just so sad and impactful and just wonderfully done, for such a heartbreaking end. Things made sense with the timeline, but where the characters were, well, it's bittersweet. But it was just such a great read!
This was such a fantastic read, I loved it so much, and I really need to read more of Tiffany D. Jackson's writing!
