Week 41 Review: The Last Namsara

From Goodreads:
In the beginning, there was the Namsara: the child of sky and spirit, who carried love and laughter wherever he went. But where there is light, there must be darkness—and so there was also the Iskari. The child of blood and moonlight. The destroyer. The death-bringer.

These are the legends that Asha, daughter of the king of Firgaard, has grown up learning in hushed whispers, drawn to the forbidden figures of the past. But it isn't until she becomes the fiercest, most feared dragon slayer in the land that she takes on the role of the next Iskari—a lonely destiny that leaves her feeling more like a weapon than a girl.

Asha conquers each dragon and brings its head to the king, but no kill can free her from the shackles that await at home: her betrothal to the cruel commandant, a man who holds the truth about her nature in his palm. When she's offered the chance to gain her freedom in exchange for the life of the most powerful dragon in Firgaard, she finds that there may be more truth to the ancient stories than she ever could have expected. With the help of a secret friend—a slave boy from her betrothed's household—Asha must shed the layers of her Iskari bondage and open her heart to love, light, and a truth that has been kept from her.

My Review:
Man, I really enjoyed this book! I loved the world, the characters, and how they defy the rules, it was such an entertaining story! On one hand, Asha has done wrong. But on the other, her society has done wrong as well, so it's not like her bad choices came from nowhere, she has grown up thinking that their wrongs are right.

When we got the story of how the Firgaard were betrayed by the dragons, I knew something was off about the story. I mean, at the end, the draksor enslaved the skral. I was pretty sure that the dragons would be against that which is why they turned against Firgaard. Which is totally understandable, the Firgaard made the wrong decision there and they are, at the end of the whole thing, the bad guys.

Watching Asha go on this journey was really great to read. She has a lot to learn, there's been a lot of lies and a lot of secrets, and Asha's on the wrong side of knowledge about them, but she does. Really enjoyed that journey, as well as her romantic one!

This is only the first in the series, and looking at the synopsis of the rest of the trilogy, we're going to focus on a different couple each time. And I'm excited, because of the 4 other main characters, we met 3 of them in this book, Asha's brother (maybe. The love interest could be someone else) and cousin, and the envoy lady from Firgaard's enemies. So I'm excited to read those books!

I really enjoyed this book, and I'm so excited to read more in this world with the sequels!
