Week 41 Reviews: Freeze Warning, Mist

From Goodreads:
As a nearly immortal Valkyrie, Mist is the guardian of the greatest of the Norse god's Treasures—Odin's spear Gungnir. But Mist believes all the gods are dead, and she's slowly settling into a normal life in San Francisco. Just when Mist is ready to give up the duty the All-father laid on her, she meets a mysterious woman, Bella Stratus, and a man who helps her save Bella's life: Eric Larsson, the perfect embodiment of a Viking warrior. He's charming, good-natured, and nearly her equal in strength; and for the first time in centuries Mist has found someone she might be able to love… and trust.

But even as Mist remembers the past she left behind and contemplates a new future with Eric, Bella warns her that she can't fight her fate. No matter what happens, no matter how hard she tries, she'll never be able to escape the destiny that awaits her.

From Goodreads:
Centuries ago, all was lost in the Last Battle when the Norse gods and goddesses went to war. The elves, the giants, and the gods and goddesses themselves were all destroyed, leaving the Valkyrie Mist one of the only survivors.

Or so she thought.

When a snowy winter descends upon modern-day San Francisco in June, Mist's quiet existence starts to feel all too familiar. In quick succession, Mist is attacked by a frost giant in a public park and runs into an elf disguised as a homeless person on the streets…and then the man Mist believed was her mortal boyfriend reveals himself to be the trickster god, Loki, alive and well after all these years.

Loki has big plans for the modern world, and he's been hanging around Mist for access to a staff that once belonged to the great god Odin. Mist is certain of one thing: Loki must be stopped if there is to be any hope for Earth. But the fight is even bigger than she knows….

Because Loki wasn't the only god to survive.

My Review:
Wow, it was really great to read these books! I meant to read them in 2015 or something, and I had started. But I put it down for some reason, and just never got around to picking them back up. But I'm so glad that I did, because they're such great stories!

The idea of Ragnarok happening-that it basically wiped out the magical creatures and world, but left Midgard alone, chugging alone, is such an interesting idea. But that some of the gods survived-including Loki, the one who is typically the bad guy, well, stuff goes down! And it was so fantastic to read!

I felt so bad for Mist, after surviving all this crap, of having a relic that nobody is coming for anymore, she's created a life for herself, and then it turns out her boyfriend is Loki. And that it isn't really over, which means that this time hasn't been in vain, but it does mean that things could get worse. And because it's book 1 of the series, of course things are going to get worse before they get better!

I loved the ending, it was just epic! I just loved reading it, it was pretty amazing to read, and I just couldn't put it down! And I can't wait to see where things go from here, there's such a daunting task ahead of them and I need to see how it's going to play out!

These were really great reads, and I'm so excited to continue with the series!
