Week 36 Review: Payback in Death

From Goodreads:
A retired colleague's suspicious death puts Lt. Eve Dallas on the case in Payback in Death, the electrifying new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author J.D. Robb.

Lt. Eve Dallas is just home from a long overdue vacation when she responds to a call of an unattended death. The victim is Martin Greenleaf, retired Internal Affairs Captain. At first glance, the scene appears to be suicide, but the closer Eve examines the body, the more suspicious she becomes.

An unlocked open window, a loving wife and family, a too-perfect suicide note—Eve's gut says it's a homicide. After all, Greenleaf put a lot of dirty cops away during his forty-seven years in Internal Affairs. It could very well be payback—and she will not rest until the case is closed.

My Review:
Yeah, this was another fantastic installment in the series! Watching Eve investigate the potential murder of a retired cop, one who worked in the IAD, yeah, it was such an un-put-downable story! I had to know what happened!

I loved the personal details in this book, like the anniversary gift that she gave him, that was a touching moment! Or when the toured the reno house, that was really great! Or that update about kicking out the asshole guy from the building that is under her name, from Abandoned, book 54. Loved htat!

This mystery was really interesting, because he was a cop, and he dealt with corrupt cops, which just adds that element. Looking into his past cases, seeing who would do what was done was really interesting. Given that she had a suspect in the back of her mind, but there wasn't anything connecting them...loved how it came together!

Plus this book had a pretty entertaining subplot about a cop who was IAD. Well, until he does what he does in this book. He had an overinflated opinion of himself, and he made things worse for himself, even if he blamed others. But oh, the boob punch, that was low!

Loved reading this book, and I can't wait for the next in this series!
