Week 24 Review: To Kill a Kingdom

From Goodreads:
Princess Lira is siren royalty and the most lethal of them all. With the hearts of seventeen princes in her collection, she is revered across the sea. Until a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own. To punish her daughter, the Sea Queen transforms Lira into the one thing they loathe most--a human. Robbed of her song, Lira has until the winter solstice to deliver Prince Elian's heart to the Sea Queen and or remain a human forever.

The ocean is the only place Prince Elian calls home, even though he is heir to the most powerful kingdom in the world. Hunting sirens is more than an unsavory hobby--it's his calling. When he rescues a drowning woman in the ocean, she's more than what she appears. She promises to help him find the key to destroying all of sirenkind for good--But can he trust her? And just how many deals will Elian have to barter to eliminate mankind's greatest enemy?

My Review:
This book was really fantastic! I loved the characters and their interactions, the world, the writing was really great. And this is only Alexandra Christo's debut novel. I'm interested to see where her future books will go!

Lira's mom was so infuriating. And to a certain extent, Lira inherited that same trait. But she didn't get the same level of evil. I think she has some low level mischief, but she's not a bad guy like her mom. But the early interactions, well, pretty much of of them, between Lira and Elian were pretty fraught!

Elian was a pretty interesting character. He was born to be the heir to the kingdom, but he finds the sea to be his calling. Cunning. Cunning is a great word to describe him. He was smart and manipulative, and I loved his relationships with his crewmembers. He was pretty equal to dishing back what Lira was giving him!

One thing that I really enjoyed about this book was how much the world affected the plot. What with the different kingdoms, and the lore and of course, the sirens and their history with humanity. That was really fantastic. Plus it meant that the ending was pretty intense, of all that magic. Such a wonderful ending!

I had a great time reading this book, and I would love to read more by Alexandra Christo!
