From Goodreads:
Thorne Manor has always been haunted…and it has always haunted Bronwyn Dale. As a young girl, Bronwyn could pass through a time slip in her great-aunt's house, where she visited William Thorne, a boy her own age, born two centuries earlier. After a family tragedy, the house was shuttered and Bronwyn was convinced that William existed only in her imagination.
Now, twenty years later Bronwyn inherits Thorne Manor. And when she returns, William is waiting.
William Thorne is no longer the boy she remembers. He's a difficult and tempestuous man, his own life marred by tragedy and a scandal that had him retreating to self-imposed exile in his beloved moors. He's also none too pleased with Bronwyn for abandoning him all those years ago.
As their friendship rekindles and sparks into something more, Bronwyn must also deal with ghosts in the present version of the house. Soon she realizes they are linked to William and the secret scandal that drove him back to Thorne Manor. To build a future, Bronwyn must confront the past.
My Review:
This book was so fantastic! I loved the idea of it, of a time travel mystery novel. And the fact that they were childhood sweethearts-until something tore them apart, and they haven't seen each other in years-well, I just wanted the full story! I loved reading about Bronwyn and William. They did have a shared past, but they haven't seen each other in 20 years. And there's a lot of mixed feelings-Bronywn because she had been told she was crazy for imagining William and ghosts and such. William, because she left, and didn't come back. Yeah. So they both had to deal with that!
But their romance was so delightful to read. There were bumps in the road, to give conflict to the story, and to be realistic, because nothing humanity participates in is perfect. It just makes it fun to read! Plus there's the overarching fear, that because they're from different times, they'll be separated again.
There was a bit of ghost story going on, because Bronwyn saw ghost in her own time. But figuring out who they are, what their stories were, well, it was a really intriguing mystery, because it was woven into William's story. And this story as a whole. I really enjoyed how it all wrapped up! But we did get the first chapter of A Twist of Fate, and I'm so excited that we're going to get Rosalind and August's story as well!
I loved reading this book, and I'm so excited to continue the series!
