Week 45 Review: Reckless Girls

From Goodreads:
From Rachel Hawkins, the New York Times bestselling author of The Wife Upstairs, comes Reckless Girls, a deliciously wicked gothic suspense, set on an isolated Pacific island with a dark history, for fans of Lucy Foley and Ruth Ware.

ONE ISLAND

Beautiful, wild, and strange—Meroe Island is a desolate spot in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with a mysterious history of shipwrecks, cannibalism, and even rumors of murder. It’s the perfect destination for the most adventurous traveler to escape everything... except the truth.

SIX VISITORS

Six stunning twentysomethings are about to embark on a blissful, free-spirited journey—one filled with sun-drenched days and intoxicating nights. But as it becomes clear that the group is even more cut off from civilization than they initially thought, it starts to feel like the island itself is closing in, sending them on a dangerous spiral of discovery.

COUNTLESS SECRETS

When one person goes missing and another turns up dead, the remaining friends wonder what dark currents lie beneath this impenetrable paradise—and who else will be swept under its secluded chaos. With its island gothic sensibility, sexy suspense, and spine-tingling reimagining of an Agatha Christie classic, Reckless Girls will wreck you.

My Review:
This book, oh man, this book! I haven't read any Agatha Christie, but I've seen some tv and film adaptations of some of her books, and maybe some other books that are retelling hers but this is the first that I know is an reimagining, and it was so great!

We know that there's something funky going on about this. It starts off with someone in the water, bleeding. Plus the synopsis. And I loved the way that it was told, we saw them at the time when they were coming to the island, and then interspersed where scenes from tantalizing moments of these characters lives before the island, and I loved how we saw these characters and their secrets build, it was so great! Especially since we were only ever in the girls' heads.

Sometimes I wanted to shake these characters. It is called reckless girls, and there are some questionable decisions made. But sometimes some risky choices have to be made, because the world doesn't treat them as well as it does the guys, who seem to just have everything handed to them, including Nico and Jake.

Oh, and the reveals, as they came! I read this book so quickly, that I didn't take the time to think about how the pieces could come together, and even though I had them, I'm pretty sure I couldn't have put them together until things were more clearly stated. So watching that ending unfold was fantastic!

I loved reading this book, and I need to read more of Rachel Hawkin's books!
