Week 43 Review: Raven Unveiled

From Goodreads:
A woman with the gift to speak to the dead—and the assassin pursuing her—may be the only chance a crumbling empire has of holding back true evil, in this electrifying fantasy romance from the USA Today bestselling author of Radiance.

Siora has been on the run for longer than she cares to remember, from her past and her gift. Born with the ability to see and speak to ghosts, she has heard their desperate pleas as an otherworldly predator stalks the dead amid the fertile killing fields of the collapsing Krael Empire. The creature's power and reach are growing with every soul it consumes, but Siora is preoccupied with her own troubles: namely an assassin who has sworn an oath of vengeance against her.

Gharek of Cabast was once the right-hand man of the reviled empress but is now a wanted fugitive. Although his reasons for hunting Siora are viscerally personal, what Gharek can't anticipate is that when he finally does find her, she will hold the key to saving his world, or what's left of it. To make good on old debts and protect the vulnerable dead from a malevolent force, Gharek and Siora will both need to make an ally out of an enemy—and trust that will be enough to save each other.

My Review:
I had such a great time reading this book! It has been a while since I read the first two books in the series, so I was a bit confused going in, because we have met Siora and Gharek, but I didn't really remember them. But they did tell us how they were a part of the series previously, so that helped!

I can see both sides of their story. He was in the wrong holding the lady prisoner, but he was also doing his best as a father in this world that had that evil empress. He was going down the wrong path, and she was right to stop him, but the way she walked away hurt his daughter, which wasn't great.

There was a lot going on in this book, with the mission from the general, the ghost-eater, and what happened to the magic black market. Not to mention their growing feelings for one another. I had such a great time watching it all play out!

I'm really hoping that we're going to get another book in this series! The way things left off, the empire is still crumbling, but there's new management coming in, and I think we could follow some characters that were introduced in this book. I want to know what's going to happen next!

Loved reading this book, and if we get more of this series, I'll definitely read it!
