Week 10 Reviews: Winter Dreams, Love Hurts, Summer Bound, Tales of Folk & Fey, Wicked Mercy

From Goodreads:
If the Summer King doesn't save Summer, humanity will perish with it, but the Dark King has discovered that he asked to forget why the not-entirely-mortal Moira Foy matters to his court, so he endeavours to prevent the Summer King from finding the mortal who would be Summer Queen.

The Summer King has spent eternity romancing mortals, stealing their mortality as he seeks his missing Summer Queen. When he met Donia half a century ago, he knew that she would either break his heart or heal it. But Donia failed the test to be his destined queen, and Keenan has lost more than his missing sunlight this time.

With the Winter Queen growing stronger every day and centuries of failure, Keenan is ready to quit trying.

Set after the end of the series, "Love Hurts" catches up with Irial, Niall, and Leslie—and offers clues about the upcoming Wicked Lovely prequel novel, Cold Iron Heart.

After centuries of frolicking as a Summer Girl, Siobhan isn't sure she's ready for her new life. Promoted to Summer Court advisor alongside Tavish, Siobhan suddenly has responsibilities and a chance at romance--until she and Tavish are at odds as they help guide their queen through a life-changing revelation.

Aislinn, former mortal and current Summer Queen, thought she'd already faced the most difficult obstacles fate could throw her way. Losing her humanity, becoming a queen, loving someone who spends fifty percent of his time in another world, facing the embodiment of war in a battle, Aislinn is ready to make sense of her new "normal."

No one is prepared when the former Dark King, Irial, arrives with a secret that could challenge the delicate balance between the Faery Courts.

Return to the world of Wicked Lovely with an all new Dark Court short story. Set after the end of the series, "Love Hurts" catches up with Irial, Niall, and Leslie-and offers clues about the upcoming Wicked Lovely prequel novel, Cold Iron Heart. Tales of Folk & Fey is a collection of Marr's tales of Celtic faeries and fey creatures. It includes "Old Habits" and "Stopping Time" (previously published Wicked Lovely Dark Court stories) and two previously published selchie short stories ("Awakened" and "Love Struck). As a bonus, the collection also includes "Carnival of Lies," a prequel story to the 2012 novel Carnival of Secrets and an excerpt of first book in the new faery duology, Seven Black Diamonds (2016).

"The Summer King rarely missed his Mother's court. Keenan had been born as the child of Summer and Winter. He chose sunlight, that was the secret no one seemed to realize: He could have chosen ice. Sometimes he thought he could have been happier in the Winter Court, but he had a duty to the leaderless Summer Court. Summer had needed him, and Keenan wanted to matter."

Wicked Mercy is a collection of previously published ebook stories set before and after Wicked Lovely . . . including "Winter Dreams" (when Moira Foy was chosen),"Love Hurts" (Niall, Irial, & Leslie), and "Summer Bound" (set after Darkest Mercy).

My Review:
Oh, I loved reading these stories! I love this world, and I loved spending this time with these characters. Not to mention that these are the last that I needed to read before I could get to Dark Sun, the latest full length novel in this world! Yeah!

The two selkie stories in Tales of Folk & Fey, they were pretty hard. The first, not so much, because there was the twist on it, and that they made a solid relationship. But the second, that he traps her, so he doesn't have an abusive relationship like his dad had with his mom? Yeah, not cool! That ending though!

Winter Dreams was a bit hard to read. Knowing how things end up with Moira dead, even knowing that Ash ends up as the Summer Queen, it's a hard story. On the other hand, Love Hurts and Summer Bound deal with the fact of Irial finding out that he has this human family. I was just grinning at his enthusiasm for these new-found family!

But that his son pops up at the end of Summer Bound, and is the lead in Dark Sun? Yeah, I need to know how that story is going to go down! Because he's angry, and he caused a lot of hurt in this novella, how much is going to happen in a full length book?

I had a great time reading these stories, and I need to continue on now!
