After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.
Now, it's the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth's last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker.
Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie's only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.
My Review:
This was such an incredible read, and such a mind twist of a book! I loved to hate this world that just kept getting worse, and the question was, who to trust? Which just kept getting more and more complicated, and I had to read more!
Cassie just wants to rescue her brother. After he got taken away, their camp got destroyed, and Cassie only barely survived. That we see her brother from the perspective of Zombie, who was someone Cassie had a crush on. But oh, the layers and layers! There's no obvious answer except that it's not obvious.
All of these characters have their own focus, and I loved watching them carry on. This really was a question about humanity, about what we do when the chips are down. Which isn't always the best thing, or right thing. I can't wait to see what future twists Rick Yancey has in this series!
The paths that this story took, it's kinda crazy that this is a YA novel, because it's more complex then a lot of adult books. This story is heartbreaking and brain breaking, and I can't wait to see where things go from here!
