#1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson brings us a gripping story set in the Cosmere universe told by Hoid, where two people from incredibly different worlds must compromise and work together to save their worlds from ruin.
Yumi comes from a land of gardens, meditation, and spirits, while Painter lives in a world of darkness, technology, and nightmares. When their lives suddenly become intertwined in strange ways, can they put aside their differences and work together to uncover the mysteries of their situation and save each other's communities from certain disaster?
My Review:
I had such a fantastic time reading this book! All the secret projects have been so great, and it was really great to be back in the Cosmere, to be on a planet that wouldn't have been visited in a full length story, if not for the secret projects. It was so much fun to read it!
Brandon wrote that Painter's culture was based off modern Japan, and Yumi's after traditional Korea. Which was a really interesting dynamic, when you add in that Painter lived in a dark world with heon lines and had Nightmares that were fought with painters, and Yumi lived in a light world with spirits who she appeased with rock stacking, they were really interesting backgrounds!
To not be in control in your own world, and to be in control in a world that isn't your own, and that back and forth, and learning the skills of the other's world with their instruction was really entertaining to read! Yumi and Painter's personalities were so very different, with her raised to be obedient and he was dark and brooding. I loved watching them challenge each other!
We we lead to believe a few things, and slowly as the story went on and we learned more, I loved all the twists and turns that we got! That final one, of what was really going on, was so mind-blowing and I absolutely adored it!
This was a fantastic read, and I can't wait for the final secret project!
