From Goodreads:
#1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas launches her brand-new CRESCENT CITY series with House of Earth and Blood the story of half-Fae and half-human Bryce Quinlan as she seeks revenge in a contemporary fantasy world of magic, danger, and searing romance.
Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life—working hard all day and partying all night—until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She'll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.
Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose—to assassinate his boss's enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he's offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.
As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City's underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion—one that could set them both free, if they'd only let it.
With unforgettable characters, sizzling romance, and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom—and the power of love.

My first review of House of Earth and Blood, House of Sky and Breath
My Review:
I was so pumped to read these books! I've been rereading all of Sarah J. Maas's books (we don't talk about the DC book because that, regardless of it's quality, doesn't exist to me) in preparation for House of Flame and Shadow. I loved reading these stories again, since it was the first time rereading them, and going straight into Flame and Shadow with the details clear in my mind!
Bryce Quinlan and Hunt Athalar are trying to get back to normal―they may have saved Crescent City, but with so much upheaval in their lives lately, they mostly want a chance to relax. Slow down. Figure out what the future holds.
The Asteri have kept their word so far, leaving Bryce and Hunt alone. But with the rebels chipping away at the Asteri's power, the threat the rulers pose is growing. As Bryce, Hunt, and their friends get pulled into the rebels' plans, the choice becomes clear: stay silent while others are oppressed, or fight for what's right. And they've never been very good at staying silent.
In this sexy, action-packed sequel to the #1 bestseller House of Earth and Blood, Sarah J. Maas weaves a captivating story of a world about to explode―and the people who will do anything to save it.
The stunning third book in the sexy, action-packed Crescent City series, following the global bestsellers House of Earth and Blood and House of Sky and Breath.
Bryce Quinlan never expected to see a world other than Midgard, but now that she has, all she wants is to get back. Everything she loves is in Midgard: her family, her friends, her mate. Stranded in a strange new world, she's going to need all her wits about her to get home again. And that's no easy feat when she has no idea who to trust.
Hunt Athalar has found himself in some deep holes in his life, but this one might be the deepest of all. After a few brief months with everything he ever wanted, he's in the Asteri's dungeons again, stripped of his freedom and without a clue as to Bryce's fate. He's desperate to help her, but until he can escape the Asteri's leash, his hands are quite literally tied.
In this sexy, breathtaking sequel to the #1 bestsellers House of Earth and Blood and House of Sky and Breath, Sarah J. Maas's Crescent City series reaches new heights as Bryce and Hunt's world is brought to the brink of collapse-with its future resting on their shoulders.

Both Earth and Blood, and Sky and Breath, were so fantastic to read, I just love this world and these characters, and how the plot is built up, with each book, and together, how everything is coming together. So much happens, and after the end of Sky and Breath, I needed to read Flame and Shadow!
Flame and Shadow, I'm not sure what I wanted with the crossover with ACOTAR. It wasn't what I expected, and didn't go in the direction that I thought it would. It hurt to see them fighting and conflicting with one another. Something that I was wondering was if the Throne of Glass crew was going to get pulled in, which didn't happen, which is good and bad, because I would've loved to see them again, but they deserve their rest and healing. It would've been so cool to see all these awesome ladies have a night out on the town though, while there's still firstlight to power the electricity! Hey, maybe it'll happen in the future.
At least her time away from home was productive, in learning the history of her ancestors. It might not have been pleasant, and I don't envy Bryce to have to carry that burden on her shoulders. They committed some horrific actions, and a big reason why things are as bad as they are. True, the one daughter had a pretty awful life afterwards, and the other escaped and had to live with that guilt, but man. The children, that was just vile.

Of course Hunt and Ruhn are in an awful situation, but fear not! They get busted out of captivity about a quarter into the story, so that wasn't too hard to read. That one scene with the hand though...but this book is popping, with a few more perspectives on top of the ones that we already had, from Tharion, who has hit rock bottom and starts to work his way up, to Ithan who kept making decisions that kept going wrong, until he, too, hit rock bottom and things started getting better, and Lidia, who had much more at stake then we knew. Almost all these characters got a power and/or status upgrade, making them more badass, which added such a cool feeling! So much happened, and I couldn't get enough!
The tension was mounting with every chapter, as situations got more precarious, I got more and more nervous for these characters, who were learning what they were truly up against, and figuring out ways to fight it. Thankfully, they've got some history and powerful artifacts and personal power behind them, as well as allies that came in clutch. That final battle was really epic and wonderful and I loved seeing the bad guys be wiped out and the Asteri blinked out of existence!
I'm pretty sure that I read that this isn't the end of the Crescent City world, but it's the end of the main plot, which did happen, the end of the Asteri. So we're probably going to get more stories in this world, which is good, because I have lingering questions, like, what is up with Fury, who and what is she that is able to do what she does? What about Ariadne? I would really like to get her story! Tharion, he had a pretty good story in this book, but things feel a bit unresolved, and he kinda still does have a bit of redeeming to do, maybe he didn't always follow through, but he was pretty selfish and self-centered, and I hope he continues on his journey. Ithan, he's the new Prime, and with his powers not being leashed, he had that scent thing with Perry-is that a power or a mate thing? I want to know! And oh, yeah, are they going to retrieve Vik from the box she was put into and dumped in the trench? I mean, they can't leave her there! And what about Lidia and naming one of her children basically after Elena from Throne of Glass's dad, Brannon? Like, she has fire, like the Galathynius implying that she was also part of it, but how would the timeline match up? If we think that all 3 series are running roughly at the same time and there's no time travel shenanigans, the ToG fae came over around the same time as the ACOTAR fae-15,000 years ago. The first war with the Valg happens 1000+/millenium before the start of Thorn of Glass. I wouldn't think that Mala and Brannon would be together that long before all the story happens, or that he could even live that long, or for them to have a descendent who could leave and be in the Midgard realm. The timelines currently aren't working together!

I know we'll get more in the ACOTAR world, so what Bryce sent Nesta on, I'm sure I'll get to see it, maybe not from Nesta's perspective, but finding out the mysteries going on there would be really good. I do have a question-what did Amren mean about going under? I know I just reread ACOTAR, but I don't quite remember, but if she means the prison, she says in this book that when she came back, there was news the Dawn Court people being gone, and the prison was started right after that, so she can't have gone under into the prison, so what am I not remembering about her story?
