Week 3 Reviews: The Girl in the Gray Sweatshirt, Mortal Danger

Before their deal – the one they strike in Mortal Danger – Kian and Edie are connected. But Edie doesn't know that. She's a girl in a gray sweatshirt, a girl who believes no one notices her, and no one cares. But Kian does. He just can't show her how much. Yet.

From Goodreads:
Revenge is a dish best served cold.

In Ann Aguirre's Mortal Danger, Edie Kramer has a score to settle with the beautiful people at Blackbriar Academy. Their cruelty drove her to the brink of despair, and four months ago, she couldn't imagine being strong enough to face her senior year. But thanks to a Faustian compact with the enigmatic Kian, she has the power to make the bullies pay. She's not supposed to think about Kian once the deal is done, but devastating pain burns behind his unearthly beauty, and he's impossible to forget.

In one short summer, her entire life changes and she sweeps through Blackbriar, prepped to take the beautiful people down from the inside. A whisper here, a look there, and suddenly . . . bad things are happening. It's a head rush, seeing her tormentors get what they deserve, but things that seem too good to be true usually are, and soon, the pranks and payback turns from delicious to deadly. Edie is alone in a world teeming with secrets and fiends lurking in the shadows. In this murky morass of devil's bargains, she isn't sure who—or what—she can trust. Not even her own mind.

My Review:
I loved reading these stories! This world was so interesting, and I had such a great time reading these stories! And I'm really excited to see where this series goes from here! The whole premise of an immortal game, with people who have an important part to play in the future being the game pieces, is such a fascinating concept!

The Girl in the Grey Sweatshirt, it made me so sad! He was just trying to get her to smile, and to give her a bright moment. At the time of reading it, I didn't know what this world was about, but having now read Mortal Danger, that they watch these people until they hit extremis, that hurts!

There was one little mystery-what was the event that sent Edie over the edge? What was that big piece of cruelty that pushed to her extremis? Something that Kian saw, but couldn't stop? Yeah, it was pretty terrible-and I searched the internet, and it says that drugging someone is a crime. And they degraded her. So when the main perp says it's not like we raped you, you still committed a crime, you asshole!

I really enjoyed this world of the dreams of humanity coming true, of urban legends and gods and such, and that's so interesting. But oh, is it a dark series, there's a lot of death in this series, and some really hard hitting ones, at that, so I'm pretty scared to read the rest of the series, but I need to know where it goes from here!

These were such great reads, and I need to continue the series now!
