The Angel and the Brown-Eyed Boy: Promo

From Goodreads:
Eliana made her way along the sidewalk, knowing that she was dirty, feeling the grit in her hair and on her skin. When she had reached the planet's atmosphere, clothes and all sorts of things had rushed at her with great force, tossing her over and over. Dirt had come, too. She'd found the clothes she needed and put them on the way her teachers had shown her. Then her people had put her where she was....

NEW YORK CITY ON THE EVE OF ARMAGEDDON, IN THE LATE 22nd CENTURY--PERHAPS

Mistaken for a Russian ballet dancer, Eliana finds her destination-the Hermitage Academy, a famous high school for the arts. Soon she discovers that this Earth is a strange and violent place, where people live in fear, and where her very presence makes some want to protect her and others want to hurt her. It is a century after the second Russian revolution, when technology was outlawed and Tsar Yuri took over most of world, ushering in the "Great Peace." For the U.S. president, Lincoln Charles, peace is doable-just focus on the positive, project a trustworthy image, and make sure that dissenters are taken care of quietly, permanently. Something terrible, though, is about to happen; and for Eliana, not much time remains to find the "Golden Boy..""

Binding Arbitration: Review

From Goodreads:
Through the corridors of the Windy City's criminal courts, single mother Libby Tucker knows exactly how far she'll go to save her cancer-stricken son's life. The undefeated defense attorney is prepared to take her fight all the way to the majors.

Circumstances force Libby to plead her case at the cleats of celebrity baseball player Banford Aidan Palowski, the man who discarded her at their college graduation. Libby has worked her backside bare for everything she's attained, while Aidan has been indulged since he slid through the birth canal and landed in a pile of Gold Coast money. But helping Libby and living up to his biological duty could jeopardize the only thing the jock worships: his baseball career.

If baseball imitates life, Aidan admits his appears to be silver-plated peanuts, until an unexpected confrontation with the most spectacular prize that’s ever poured from a caramel corn box blindsides him. When he learns about his son's desperate need, it pricks open the wound he’s carried since he abandoned Libby and the child.

All Libby wants is a little anonymous DNA, but Aidan has a magical umpire in his head who knows Libby's a fateball right to the heart. When a six-year-old sage and a hippy priestess step onto the field, there’s more to settle between Libby and Aidan than heartache, redemption, and forgiveness.

My Review:
This was a really entertaining book! I enjoyed it so much, and though the baseball references were a bit annoying. Other then that, I really enjoyed reading about these characters, they were interesting, and entertaining, and I enjoyed all of that!

This book brought up a lot of a lot of emotions! A kid with cancer, that's pretty emotional. Then there was the relationship conflicts, because yeah, he is the father of their child, and he abandoned her, and yeah, all the things there!

What Aidan did, it wasn't the best choice. It was one of the worst, but not the worst, out a limited selection of choices. So he did the best he could. But that still meant that he had some apologies to make, he did have that chance for redemption!

Reading this journey that Libby and Aidan go on, for their son, and for each other, was just a really heart-warming story, one that was just really great to read! It was a difficult journey, but in the end, I think they'd agree that it was a necessary one!

I enjoyed this book a lot, it was really great to read, I enjoyed it so much!

Bio:
Windy city writer, Elizabeth Marx, brings cosmopolitan life alive in her fiction—a blend of romance, fast-paced Chicago living, and a sprinkle of magical realism. In her past incarnation she was an interior designer, not a decorator, a designer, which basically means she has a piece of paper to prove that she knows how to match things, measure things and miraculously make mundane pieces of furniture appear to be masterpieces. Elizabeth says being an interior designer is one part shrink, one part marriage counselor and one part artist, skills eerily similar to those employed in writing.

Elizabeth grew up in Illinois, but has also lived in Texas and Florida. If she's not pounding her head against the wall trying to get the words just right, you can find her at a softball field out in the boonies somewhere or sitting in the bleachers by a basketball court. Elizabeth resides with her husband, girls, and two cats who've spelled everyone into believing they're really dogs.

Elizabeth has travelled extensively, but still says there's no town like Chi Town.

Week 39 Review: Alice in Zombieland

From Goodreads:
She won't rest until she's sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.

Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that's all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.

Her father was right. The monsters are real….

To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn't careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies….

My Review:
I love reading Gena Showalter books! Especially when I own the book I hold in my hands, and seeing as it's a Gena Showalter book, 10 to 1, I own it, because I have to have a physical copy of my favourite author's books! And yeah, it was just a pleasure to read this book!

First, the zombies! So awesome, and unique, that they were spirits, not bodies that want brains, that is just so awesome! Never read about this kind of zombie, because I don't think it's ever happened before. So yeah, absolutely loved that, and all the world building that went into that, so fantastic!

Ali, and Cole! They were awesome, bad asses, and from how they see visions of the future when they lock gazes for the first time they see each other each day, to how they're such awesome fighters, how it just comes naturally to her, and how he was having a getting to know you thing for her, and then just shot off things about himself so they would start dating, that was just so cute!

There are some costs to what they do. From the deaths of her family, which hurt a lot, but built her up stronger-and she still got to see her sister, as a Witness, which was pretty cool!-for the things to come, because this just the first book! And then the loss of her grandfather, and then having to ash her dad. Not fun. But she has Cole, so it's easier!

This was such a fantastic, enticing, wonderful book, one I'm so glad exists, and I just can't wait for the next book!

Week 39 Review: Rift

From Goodreads:
Sixteen-year-old Ember Morrow is promised to a group called Conatus after one of their healers saves her mother's life. Once she arrives, Ember finds joy in wielding swords, learning magic, and fighting the encroaching darkness loose in the world. She also finds herself falling in love with her mentor, the dashing, brooding, and powerful Barrow Hess. When the knights realize Eira, one of their leaders, is dabbling in dark magic, Ember and Barrow must choose whether to follow Eira into the nether realm or to pledge their lives to destroying her and her kind.

My Review:
I really enjoyed this book a lot! Ember is difference from Calla, because of different, but similar personalities as pretty kick butt girls, and of the different times that they were raised, and oh, yeah, Ember's living in the time that the Keepers, and what spawned off of that whole situation, including what became Calla's pack, happened. Yeah.

I enjoyed reading this book a lot, seeing where things had started, what they had been, and then what they started to become. Yeah, I don't think that Eira made the right choice, because her sister doesn't agree with her, and they used to basically be best buds. And this is tearing them apart.

The whole relationship between Ember and Barrow, yeah, I enjoyed that a lot! A lot of back and forth, seeing as he's her teacher and all, and yeah, that ending? Between the bad stuff that Eira did that she blamed on her enemies, and Ember and Barrow and a few others having to run away? Not fun!

I know where it's going to lead, and how the bad guys are going to be defeated. So seeing from the side where it's first getting started, is just a weird juxtaposition. I enjoyed it, but it was weird. But I live for weird, so yeah!

This was a really great book, and I can't wait for Rise, I know it's going to be great!

Week 39 Review: Unleashed

From Goodreads:
Katelyn McBride's life changed in an instant when her mother died. Uprooted from her California home, Katelyn was shipped to the middle of nowhere, Arkansas, to her only living relative, her grandfather. And now she has to start over in Wolf Springs, a tiny village in the Ozark Mountains. Like any small town, Wolf Springs has secrets. But the secrets hidden here are more sinister than Katelyn could ever imagine. It's a town with a history that reaches back centuries, spans continents, and conceals terrifying truths. And Katelyn McBride is about to change everything.

Broken families, ageless grudges, forced alliances, and love that blooms in the darkest night—welcome to Wolf Springs.

My Review:
I enjoyed this book so much! I've read other books by these author together, and a few by Nancy Holder alone, and I think of all of those, this one was the best! I really enjoyed it a lot, it was really great!

First off, to have your mom-your really only close family-die so that you could live, in an earthquake, yeah, that has to be pretty traumatizing. And then to pretty much immediately after leave your whole life behind, and go live in pretty much the middle of nowhere with a relative you've hardly met? Not fun! but Katelyn does it!

And then she's bitten by a strange animal-a werewolf, as it turns out. Which, as we learned more about them in this world, are pretty awesome! Not for Katelyn, but for us, what with the hell hounds and such!

I really liked her friend, Trick, it was really too bad that he wasn't the nicest after a while because she was hanging out with the Fenner family, but yeah, he was a really great guy besides that, having been though a hard time with the law.

I enjoyed this book so much, and yeah, I can't wait to read more!

Week 39 Review: Foxfire

From Goodreads:
Tavian and Gwen race to find a magical cure in the third thrilling Other novel.

Tavian has never forgotten his real mother, a shapeshifting Japanese fox spirit like himself, who abandoned him. On a trip to Japan, his homeland, he discovers that she's alive. But a faceless ghost warns Tavian to stay away from her. Even worse, Tavian's magical fox powers have vanished. Finding his mother in Tokyo's seamy underworld may be his only chance to beat back the vicious dog spirits stalking him and his girlfriend Gwen--and to recover from a fatal magical illness eroding his human side.

My Review:
So I might wish that I had read the previous books in the series, well, this book is going to get me to read them, because I enjoyed it so much, and I just need to know what came before, that lead to this! It was so fantastic!

The world of Other, with shapeshifters, is so fantastic! If I had thought about it before I read this book, I think I would've come up with a pretty similar world. Because we humans are pretty terrified of things we don't understand. It was just so great to read this book!

The legend of the kitsune isn't one that I know much about, so this book was a breath of fresh air! I enjoyed it, and how it was, I enjoyed all that, and the world! It was original and awesome! I just really liked it!

There was the mystery, with Tavian's life on the line, was really awesome! I really enjoyed how it all came together, with his mom, and his girlfriend, and yeah, that was really fantastic! I enjoyed everything about this book!

Yeah, I'm really glad that I was able to get this book from NetGalley, otherwise I wouldn't have read this, and wouldn't be reading the first two novels!

Week 39 Review: Pretty Crooked

From Goodreads:
Willa's secret plan seems all too simple: take from the rich kids at Valley Prep and give to the poor ones.

Yet Willa's turn as Robin Hood at her ultra-exclusive high school is anything but. Bilking her "friends"-known to everyone as the Glitterati-without them suspecting a thing, is far from easy. Learning how to pick pockets and break into lockers is as difficult as she'd thought it'd be. Delivering care packages to the scholarship girls, who are ostracized just for being from the "wrong" side of town, is way more fun than she’d expected.

The complication Willa didn't expect, though, is Aidan Murphy, Valley Prep's most notorious (and gorgeous) ace-degenerate. His mere existence is distracting Willa from what matters most to her-evening the social playing field between the have and have-nots. There's no time for crushes and flirting with boys, especially conceited and obnoxious trust-funders like Aidan.

But when the cops start investigating the string of burglaries at Valley Prep and the Glitterati begin to seek revenge, could he wind up being the person that Willa trusts most?

My Review:
This was such a fantastic book! I enjoyed it so much! A modern day Robin Hood, but a girl? Just awesome! I just utterly loved that idea, and I'm really excited that this is a series, because man, this book was really great!

Willa's awesome. Infiltrating the Glitterati, to Robin Hood them, was really great! They were not nice girls (and while stealing normally is bad, this is a book, and it isn't real, and Willa's the narrator and the good guy, so it's OK in the book!) and while that means they should have a perspective change, like I wrote, stealing is only OK because it's a book and it isn't real!

Oh, and Aidan! Such a complication in her life! But taught her some pretty helpful tips in her quest, so that was really great! And he seemed to genuinely care for her, so just can't wait to see how that's all going to play out!

Loved the mystery in it, because there was something strange of how her mom got the money and the sales of all those paintings, and how much she got for them. And that is probably going to be the big thing of the next book, seeing where this one ended!

Such a great, awesome, amazing book, and now I just really can't wait for more!

Week 39 Review: A Want So Wicked

From Goodreads:
Elise is a normal seventeen-year-old girl until the day she wakes up in a desert park, with no idea who she is.

After that episode, her life takes a bizarre turn. She’s experiencing unexpected flashes of insight into people’s lives—people she’s never met before. Strangers frighten her with warnings about the approaching Shadows. And although Elise has never had a boyfriend, she suddenly finds herself torn between two handsome but very different young men: Abe, the charming bad boy whose effect on her both seduces and frightens her, and the mysterious Harlin, who’s new to town but with whom Elise feels an urgent, elemental connection—almost as if they are soul mates.

Now Elise begins to question everything about her life. Why do these guys both want her so desperately? What are the Shadows? Why does the name Charlotte inspire a terrifying familiarity? And who is Elise, really?

My Review:
Oh, this was a really fantastic book! I mean, we knew a lot of what was going on if we've read A Need So Beautiful, but even then, that's not everything that's going on. Because yeah, things are different, and things are learned, and it was just so great!

I enjoyed these new characters! They were interesting, and I wanted to know more about them! And in that, this is a part of the reason why I want a 3rd book, but I'll further explain why later on. And yeah, there characters were really great!

Of course, then there's Harlin, from before, and yeah, things are different! Especially with Charlotte now Elise! So that was an interesting situation to read about, and I just couldn't wait for more! The pages just flew right by

And they found a solution to help the other Forgotten and Shadows! Which is really great! And yeah, this is my main reason for wanting a 3rd book, I want to see Elise and Harlin go and implement this solution, because yeah, I want to spend more time with them!

This was a really great book, I enjoyed it a lot, and yeah, I really want more!

Week 39 Review: The Calling

From Goodreads:
Maya Delaney's paw-print birthmark is the mark of what she truly is -a skin-walker. She can run faster, climb higher, and see better than nearly everyone else. Experiencing intense connections with the animals that roam the woods outside her home, Maya knows it's only a matter of time before she's able to Shift and become one of them. And she believes there may be others in her small town with surprising talents.

Now Maya and her friends have been forced to flee from their homes during a forest fire they suspect was deliberately set. Then they're kidnapped, and after a chilling helicopter crash, they find themselves in the Vancouver Island wilderness with nothing but their extraordinary abilities to help them get back home.

My Review:
This book was just so good! It's been a while since I read The Gathering, but this book was just so action packed, things were happening, and yeah, I just loved reading this book so much! It was just a great middle book!

I loved the developments in this book, the helicopter crash, and finding out some more of what was going on. And then they went back home, and then they left. And then they met up with Rafe again! So much was going on!

And they found out that Nicole was a killer! Which was not fun, but seeing as she was separated from them, is a better thing then not! So I wonder how that's going to play out! And that wasn't the only thing-like meeting Maya's dad, and being around her grandmother, and then a mention of the other trilogy's events! I hope they meet up in the next book or soon after!

There were some hilarious moments in this book, like at the abandoned place, but then there were harder moments, when they hitch-hiked, and the guy was going to rape them. But Maya killed him. A bit harsh, but he deserved a punishment!

This was such a great book, I loved it so much, and I can't wait for more!

Week 39 Review: Nightshade

From Goodreads:
A dark, gothic tale of romance… and murder. The latest book in the grippingly dark series, The Poison Diaries. Our heroine, Jessamine, has lost her faith in the men she loved, and her innocence as well. She turns to the dark side and plots to kill her father, using his own poisons, before becoming an assassin, a poisoner for hire. Can she recover from her heartache and reunite with her true love, Weed? Find out in this thrilling story where poisons, darkness and horror are a part of everyday life, and love is the only cure.

My Review:
This was a pretty great book! I didn't enjoy it as much as The Poison Diaries, but it was still pretty great! It was much darker, and yeah, it was pretty darned entertaining, with all the new and dark things that were happening!

So after the ending of The Poison Diaries, I really wanted to read this book. And it picks up pretty quickly, which is what I wanted, because I wanted to know what was going to happen next, after that big mess that was the ending of the last book.

Yeah, this book is definitely darker then the first book, the poison prince is in Jessamine's head, and yeah, her new-found job as an assassin, and being apart, especially after the betrayal. And then there were times when they were just so close, but then it didn't work out for them, and that sucked!

Lots of pretty bad things happen in this book. You think of the Dante's Inferno, well, this is kinda similar, the first one was the decent, this one is going through hell, and hopefully the last one will get the characters to a good place, to paradise, you know? I'm pretty sure that's the order of events in the Dante series, at least!

Such a fantastic book, really enjoyable, and I want the 3rd, and probably final, book now!

Week 39 Review: Blood

From Goodreads:
"I do not remember being bitten. I wish I did, for then I would know the creature who did this to me and I would have a purpose, to track him down and repay him for the poisoned gift he gave me." Back in the 13th Century, Will was destined to be Earl of Mercia. He never lived to inherit his title, struck down by a strange illness and buried beneath the city walls. But Will was not dead, and only now, seven lonely centuries later, does he begin to understand that there was a reason for all of this, that he has a destiny. To find it though, he will need help, and as ever, he will need blood.

My Review:
I'm so glad that I got the 2nd book from NetGalley, or else, I might not have read this book. And that would've been a shame, because this was a really fantastic book! I really enjoyed how vampires were in this world, it was really interesting!

Will didn't want to become a vampire. But he did, and now that he's lived this long, well, yeah, he's not really happy. And then all this destiny stuff starts something, and things start looking up for him! It was really great to watch that!

This book was just really strange. And I enjoyed it so much! A part of the reason that Will was such a fantastic narrator was because he was strange! Oh, the setting, the writing, and the plot all helped there, but Will's narration was a bit part of that!

I'm really, really glad that it's a series! Because that means that we'll see more of Elise and Will. We'll see more of Will adjusting to the modern day and time and language, because that was just fantastic in this book! And more facing off with the bad guys and plotting there! Can't wait for that!

This was a really fantastic book! I just enjoyed it so much, and I need more!

Week 39 Review: Sirensong

From Goodreads:
When Dana is invited to Faerie to be officially presented at the Seelie Court, it's no easy decision. After all, everyone knows Titania, the Seelie Queen, wants her dead. But Titania claims not to be the one behind the death threats; and her son, Prince Henry, makes the decision a whole lot easier when he suggests Dana might be arrested for (supposedly) conspiring with her aunt Grace to usurp the Seelie throne. So she and her father better do as they're told . . .

The journey through Faerie is long—and treacherous. Dana thought it would be a good idea to have friends along, but her sort-of-boyfriend, Ethan, and her bodyguard's son, Keane, just can't seem to get along, and Kimber's crush on Keane isn't making things any easier. When a violent attack separates Dana from their caravan, the sexy Erlking saves her just in the nick of time . . . and makes it clear that he hasn't given up on making her his own.

Arriving at Titania's beautiful palace should be a relief. But Dana is soon implicated in an assassination attempt against Titania's granddaughter, and is suddenly a fugitive, forced to leave her father behind as she and her friends flee for their lives. Will she be able to prove her innocence before the forces of the Seelie Court—or, worse, the Erlking—catch up with her? And will she save her father before he pays the ultimate price in her stead?

My Review:
This was a pretty fantastic ending to the series! Sure, there's things that I want to know, and I want to spend more time in this world, but yeah, this was a really great book to end the series! I just enjoyed it so much!

Loved the relationships that have been developing, some since the very beginning of the series, and how they ended up! There were a lot of complications, the characters sometimes fought their feelings, but yeah, there were happy endings, like Kimber, and I really loved that!

The mystery of who was behind everything, who was manipulating things, and causing all this trouble for Dana and crew, well, yeah, that was a part of this book that I was really interested in, because it was causing a lot of conflict! Really enjoyed how that wrapped up!

So something that we're missing because we're not going to get another book, is who is going to be the next consul. Which sucks, but oh, well. What happened to the mom, well, yeah, that sucked. But then there were other happy bits!

Really, really fantastic book, I just enjoyed it so much, and I can't wait to read more by Jenna Black!

Week 39 Review: Catching Jordan

From Goodreads:
ONE OF THE BOYS

What girl doesn't want to be surrounded by gorgeous jocks day in and day out? Jordan Woods isn't just surrounded by hot guys, though-she leads them as the captain and quarterback of her high school football team. They all see her as one of the guys and that's just fine. As long as she gets her athletic scholarship to a powerhouse university.

But everything she's ever worked for is threatened when Ty Greeen moves to her school. Not only is he an amazing QB, but he's also amazingly hot. And for the first time, Jordan's feeling vulnerable. Can she keep her head in the game while her heart's on the line?

My Review:
I think Miranda Kenneally is going to be an author that's going to be around a long while, because this book was fantastic! While this book is on the shorter side, it has a lot in it, all the conflicts of high school romance!

So Jordan is a pretty big tomboy, she's the captain and the quarterback of the football team. Which is saying something, even if her dad's the coach. And then Ty shows up, and things get messed up. Not fun, but it was so great to read!

I did feel like Jordan was a bit over-emotional, tearing up almost every other page. And while these were pretty emotional circumstances, I'm not a crying person, and so that was a tiny bit annoying. But that's something on me!

Where it ended, and wrapped up, was really pleasant and great! And since I've heard that it's going to be a series, well, yeah, that means that we're going to be able to see these two again later, after they've reached their happy ending, so yeah, that's really great!

I just enjoyed this book so much! It was so entertaining and great!
