Week 31 Review: The Cruel Prince

From Goodreads:
By #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black, the first book in a stunning new series about a mortal girl who finds herself caught in a web of royal faerie intrigue.

Of course I want to be like them. They're beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.

And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.

Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans.

Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.

To win a place at the Court, she must defy him--and face the consequences.

In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed. But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.

My Review:
Oh, man, this book! It was such a fantastic read, I loved Jude, she was such a dark and wonderful character, she was smart and she'd adapted to the world of Faerie in the time that she's spend there. I loved reading this book, and I can't wait to see where this series goes from here!

The beginning of this book, set up these characters and this world, and it was a bit slower paced, but that just meant that once things got going, they really didn't slow down. I just loved this world, it was dark and hard and just full of mysteries that I wanted to see solved!

Honestly, I had a bit of a hard time reading part of this book. Just around the middle, I just knew that something bad was going to happen (and it did, but it wasn't the showstopper bad thing) and when it down, well, it was pretty unexpected, and I didn't expect it to go in that direction! That was just the story of this story!

Jude was so tricky! And that ending, man, it was just incredible! Jude worked it all so carefully, and it could've easily got wrong, but I loved how it worked out! It wasn't what we or the other characters were lead to believe, and I can't wait to see how it plays out in the sequels!

This was an incredible read, and I need to continue this series!
