Week 40 Review: The Rest Falls Away

From Goodreads:
Beneath the glitter of dazzling nineteenth century London Society lurks a bloodthirsty evil…

Vampires have always lived among them, quietly attacking unsuspecting debutantes and dandified lords as well as hackney drivers and Bond Street milliners. If not for the vampire slayers of the Gardella family, these immortal creatures would have long ago taken control of the world.

In every generation, a Gardella is called to accept the family legacy, and this time, Victoria Gardella Grantworth is chosen, on the eve of her debut, to carry the stake. But as she moves between the crush of ballrooms and dangerous moonlit streets, Victoria's heart is torn between London's most eligible bachelor, the Marquess of Rockley, and her dark, dangerous duty.

And when she comes face-to-face with the most powerful vampire in history, Victoria must ultimately make a choice between duty and love.

My Review:
I really enjoyed reading this book! I mean, the concept of basically genetic vampire hunting is pretty interesting. Though there are people who aren't Gardellas who hunt vampires, but Gardellas have a bit of an extra oomph. So that was really fun to read!

I really enjoyed reading about Victoria and co. Some of her interactions with Max were just hilarious. It was a pretty easy guess to think that there's some romantic tension there, but then there's her romantic prospect, Lord Rockley.

This book was basically about Victoria's journey, learning to be a vampire hunter, and balancing her duties as a vampire hunter with those of a young lady of good birth. And it was a struggle, when spending her time dealing with one set of responsibilities led to a slip in the others.

Oh, man, that ending! I did read the synopsizes of the subsequent books in the series, but I didn't know why he wasn't mentioned. Well, this ending is why. And it's really too bad, he seemed like a decent guy, but he got sucked into her hidden life, and it didn't end well.

This was a really great read, and I'm really excited to continue the series!
