Week 40 Review: You Were Never Here

From Goodreads:
Cat hasn't been to Montgomery Falls, the town her family founded, since she was twelve years old. Since the summer she discovered she could do things that no normal twelve-year-old could do. Since she had her first kiss with Riley Fraser. Since she destroyed their friendship.

Now, five years later, she's back and Riley has disappeared.

For the last three months no one has heard from or seen Riley. And while there are all sorts of conspiracy theories about where he went, neither the police nor his parents are any closer to finding him. When Noah, Riley's brother, asks for help in discovering what happened, Cat is torn between wanting to learn the truth and protecting the secret that she's been guarding ever since that summer she and Riley stopped speaking.

But then a girl is discovered floating in the river, barely alive with no knowledge of who attacked her or why. With the possibility that someone out there is hunting teens, Cat must make a choice: Use her unusual ability to discover the truth and find Riley or keep running away from a power she can't control. Only one choice will put her in a killer's sights…

My Review:
This was a really great read! I loved reading about these characters and their problems-and the mystery! It was just such a great read! Plus Cat has this ability, which was pretty interesting to read, though I was a bit confused as to how she interpreted them, because I'm not that great with emptions!

There were two minor mysteries for me. One, why she and Riley stopped speaking. And two, why she and her friend in New York aren't speaking now, as well. I get it, having her powers are hard. Plus having a dad who plays it off like they aren't real, well, not cool. But I had to know why those two relationships had broken.

The main mystery, wow, it was pretty unexpected! It was quite tricky and clever, leading us in one direction when it was coming from another. That ending was amazing to read, though it was bittersweet with that one outcome.

I think the best part for me, is that that while a romance blooms in this book, the ending doesn't give it as much importance as it does to her found family of friends. That was just so sweet, I loved their gesture in that final scene!

This was such a great read, I really enjoyed it, and I can't wait to read more by Kathleen Peacock!
