In the latest novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, homicide detective Eve Dallas sifts through the wreckage of the past to find a killer.
The body was left in a dumpster like so much trash, the victim a woman of no fixed address, known for offering paper flowers in return for spare change—and for keeping the cops informed of any infractions she witnessed on the street. But the notebook where she scribbled her intel on litterers and other such offenders is nowhere to be found.
Then Eve is summoned away to a nearby building site to view more remains—in this case decades old, adorned with gold jewelry and fine clothing—unearthed by recent construction work. She isn't happy when she realizes that the scene of the crime belongs to her husband, Roarke—not that it should surprise her, since the Irish billionaire owns a good chunk of New York. Now Eve must enter a complex world of real estate development, family history, shady deals, and shocking secrets to find justice for two women whose lives were thrown away…
My Review:
Well, of course this was another great book in this series! I loved reading this mystery, and how this one case's proximity leads to another case. That was different, and after this long-running series, different is always good!
The second case, oh was it interesting, because it was a crime that was committed around the time of the Urban Wars, and I enjoyed learning more about that pretty important time period in this world! Though it was pretty heartbreaking!
I enjoyed the updates in their lives, and Mavis and Leonardo's house is going along just fine and I can't wait to see the big reveal as well as welcoming the baby! It was good to have some nice and light after the darkness of the mystery!
How the mysteries wrapped up, it was pretty sad. But Eve got justice for the victims and it was especially gratifying because the bad guy was just awful and it was great to see justice triumph over him! Just the idea of what could have been, if only murder hadn't been committed.
Loved reading this book, and I can't wait for the next book in the series!
