Week 28 Reviews: Raised by Wolves, Sweet Sixteen, Trial by Fire, Taken by Storm

From Goodreads:
Adopted by the Alpha of a werewolf pack after a rogue wolf brutally killed her parents right before her eyes, fifteen-year-old Bryn knows only pack life, and the rigid social hierarchy that controls it.  That doesn't mean that she's averse to breaking a rule or two.

But when her curiosity gets the better of her and she discovers Chase, a new teen locked in a cage in her guardian's basement, and witnesses him turn into a wolf before her eyes, the horrific memories of her parents' murders return. Bryn becomes obsessed with getting her questions answered, and Chase is the only one who can provide the information she needs.

But in her drive to find the truth, will Bryn push too far beyond the constraints of the pack, forcing her to leave behind her friends, her family, and the identity that she's shaped?

Set in Lake's POV, and takes place in between Raised by Wolves and Trial by Fire.

As four close friends celebrate their sweet sixteen parties within a few weeks of each other, their friendships are put to the test by boy troubles and by their efforts to outdo each other in holding the party of the year.

From Goodreads:
There can only be one alpha.

Bryn is finally settling into her position as alpha of the Cedar Ridge Pack—or at least, her own version of what it means to be alpha when you're a human leading a band of werewolves. Then she finds a teenage boy bleeding on her front porch. Before collapsing, he tells her his name is Lucas, he's a Were, and Bryn's protection is his only hope.

But Lucas isn't part of Bryn's pack, and she has no right to claim another alpha's Were.  With threats—old and new—looming, and danger closing in from all sides, Bryn will have to accept what her guardian Callum knew all along. To be alpha, she will have to give in to her own animal instincts and become less human. And, she's going to have to do it alone.

Bryn faces both the costs, and the rewards, of love and loyalty, in this thrilling sequel to Raised by Wolves.

From Goodreads:
Bryn knows first-hand that being the alpha of a werewolf pack means making hard decisions, and that being human makes things a thousand times worse. She's prepared to give up her humanity, but the wolf who promised to Change her is waiting - though for what, Bryn doesn't know. Still human, she must take her place in the werewolf Senate, the precarious democracy that rules the North American packs. Standing side by side with werewolves who were ancient long before she was ever born is enough of a challenge, but Bryn soon learns that the Senate has been called to deal with a problem: the kind of problem that involves human bodies, a Rabid werewolf, and memories that Bryn, Chase, and the rest of their pack would rather forget. With bodies stacking up and political pressure closing in from all sides, Bryn and her pack are going to have to turn to old enemies and even older friends for help - especially when it starts to look like this time, the monster might be one of their own.

My second review of Raised by Wolves, Trial by Fire, Taken by Storm
My Review:
Well I loved reading this series again! I wanted to reread it again before I packed up these books, and I managed that. They still haven't been packed at the time of writing this review, but they will be within the next 2 weeks. So I made it, and this series destroyed me again.

This is the first time that I've read Sweet Sixteen. I couldn't find it anywhere last time I read the series, but in the time since, I did. And I loved getting Lake's perspective, seeing her deal with the grief over her brother. And I'd totally forgotten what happened in Taken by Storm! But that tied in so well!

One that that I do when I'm engrossed by a book and emotions are high, is I clench my chin. I don't realize it until after, but sometimes, I get bruises. Taken by Storm was a time where I had bruises. I just care so much for these characters, I don't want them to be hurt, but they are, and I feel for them!

For both Trial by Fire, and Taken by Storm, I though of a way that things could've been done differently, so that ending wouldn't have come about. Lucas could've said, hey, I'll become a loner. He wouldn't have tried to kill Bryn, Maddie wouldn't have left. Problem solved! He might have been weak, but Bryn, Maddie, they could've protected him.

Taken by Storm, my thought would be, utilized Shay's gambit from Trial by Fire. She ended up in his pack anyways. Why didn't she join before everything went down, and then challenge him? Sure, she just gave birth, but he'd claimed her baby. I really don't think she'd want him as her baby's alpha. Bah, then Chase wouldn't have to die! I hurt for Bryn so much there!

This is such an amazing series, and I really, really hope that we'll get Bryn post-end of Taken by Storm! I have hope!
