From the critically acclaimed author of A Step Toward Falling and Say What You Will comes a new YA standalone about mental health, chronic illness, and two teenagers learning to deal with both while falling for each other, perfect for fans of Five Feet Apart.
David Sheinman is the popular president of his senior class, battling cystic fibrosis.
Jamie Turner is a quiet sophomore, struggling with depression.
The pair soon realizes that they can be their true selves with each other, and their unlikely friendship develops into something so much more. But neither Jamie nor David can bring themselves to reveal the secrets that weigh most heavily on their hearts—and their time for honesty may be running out.
My Review:
I had a really good time reading this book! It's not normally one that I would pick up, because contemporary really isn't my thing, but I'm always afraid that I'll miss out on a fantastic book. This doesn't have a wow factor for me, but I did have a good time reading it
One thing that I really liked was the cover, it's simple with the black background, but then it has the paper and the steps of origami with the different coloured pieces of paper, and visually it really pops, so that was really great!
Mental health, and chronic illness, both are things that need to be more widely known. I can't speak to how well done they were, but I'm glad that they got this representation, and how it doesn't shy away from how hard it can be.
I really enjoyed David and Jamie's story, being a teenager is hard, and they both are dealing with things that make it harder, and having someone to relate to, to share your struggles with, it helps. They were a great couple, and I really had a great time reading about them!
Really enjoyed this book, I'm glad that I read it, and I can't wait to read more by Cammie McGovern!
