Oh, these books were a lot of fun to read! I loved meeting Morrigan and exploring her world, it was so quirky and so much fun! This was my 2nd series foray into middle grade, and while I still won't read a lot of middle grade, I will continue this series, because I'm having a great time!
I felt so badly for Morrigan. Her whole life, she's been a cursed child, meaning every bad things that happens is blamed on her. And she's supposed to die when Eveningtide comes, which is usually every 11 to 12 years. But there's more to the story then she knows, and she escapes death by going to Nevermoor, and starts the process of joining the Wundrous Society.
But of course her journey doesn't stop there. There was so either kept from her, or secrets that she discovered or was finally told. Like what her knack is, which she spend the whole first book in the dark about. But the fact that she's a Wundersmith-after what Ezra Squall has done, well, the ability has her pretty much treated the same way as she was when she was a cursed child, and that really sucks!
I loved the friend/family group that she gained with Unit 919! Things were definitely rough the first year between the blackmail and all, and her being a Wundersmith, but they worked together and I loved how that worked out! I just loved her friendship with Hawthorne and Cadence!
When I was reading Wundersmith, and we got this tour of WunSec, there were two points that came together in my mind. Sub-Level 9, and the black circle-it had to be connected to Wundersmiths. So it was lovely in Hollowpox for that to be confirmed!
I have to say, it must've been tough, to have Hollowpox come out last year, in the midst of a global pandemic. It was written before it started, at most there was probably editing, publicity and marketing. So that must've been an awful situation. But I'm really glad that it exists!
Hollowpox had two story parts, the Hollowpox, and Morrigan really learning how to be a Wundersmith. She learns so much history, and how to use her abilities, and that was a really great part of the story. Hollowpox, on the other hand, while great, was really hard to read-because this epidemic is only targeting Wunimals, who already don't have an easy time with humans, there's a lot of prejudice, and the Hollowpox only made things worse.
There's a few threads that I can't wait to see where they go. First and foremost, is what enemy is Ezra Squall talking about? I firmly believe that this enemy exists, and the final showdown is probably going to be against whomever. Secondly, what happens when a safeguard pact is activated? I need to know!
This was such a great series, and I can't wait to see where it goes from here!

I firmly believe that this enemy exists, and the final showdown is probably going to be against whomever. Secondly, what happens when a safeguard pact is activated? I need to know!
