Week 38 Review: Infinity Son

From Goodreads:
Balancing epic and intensely personal stakes, bestselling author Adam Silvera's Infinity Son is a gritty, fast-paced adventure about two brothers caught up in a magical war generations in the making.

Growing up in New York, brothers Emil and Brighton always idolized the Spell Walkers—a vigilante group sworn to rid the world of specters. While the Spell Walkers and other celestials are born with powers, specters take them, violently stealing the essence of endangered magical creatures.

Brighton wishes he had a power so he could join the fray. Emil just wants the fighting to stop. The cycle of violence has taken a toll, making it harder for anyone with a power to live peacefully and openly. In this climate of fear, a gang of specters has been growing bolder by the day.

Then, in a brawl after a protest, Emil manifests a power of his own—one that puts him right at the heart of the conflict and sets him up to be the heroic Spell Walker Brighton always wanted to be.

Brotherhood, love, and loyalty will be put to the test, and no one will escape the fight unscathed.

My Review:
I really enjoyed reading this book, this world with Celestials and magical creatures and the Specters that steal their blood to have powers of their own. It's such an interesting idea, and I really enjoyed watching brothers Emil and Brighton in this world!

At first, when we didn't know how Emil got his powers, I felt so badly for him. Because he did love phoenixes, and would never knowingly take their powers and become a Specter. And then we found out, and I felt bad again for him, to have the weigh on his shoulders like that!

Honestly, I didn't really like Brighton. He was pretty selfish, and always wanted that next level of fame. And he thought and acted like he wanted to be perceived. And while that's realistic, I didn't enjoy reading about it.

We did get a few other perspectives besides the brothers, like Maribelle, a Celestial who is trying to find out what happened when her parents died. And Ness, a Specter who just had to have been involved somehow. I really enjoyed how the stories all came together for that ending! It was fantastic to read!

This was a really great book, and I can't wait to read the sequel!
