Maybe a killer only looks like a killer in the moment just before, during, or after.
Maybe a liar, a good one, never shows it.
Kayla is still holding on to Lainie's secrets.
After all, Lainie is Kayla's best friend. And despite Lainie's painful obsession with her on-again, off-again boyfriend, and the ways he has tried to come between them, friends don't spill each other's secrets. They don't betray each other's trust.
The murder at the end of the summer doesn't change all that.
Besides—Kayla knows that the truth is not the whole story.
My Review:
This book was just totally amazing. This is a book about relationships-the ones you have with your friends, and with your romantic interest, and how sometimes those relationships can conflict. This book was just really unexpected and I really enjoyed it!
The way this story was told, we got the letters that someone was writing, we found out it was Kayla, writing to someone else, to Lainie, from some time after camp. But it's not clear what happened, just that they can't communicate anymore. And given the synopsis mentions a killer, well, someone died. But we don't know what happened. As the book goes on, as we see that time, we find out what did happen, and it was just so great to read!
Another part of this story were the page or so transcripts from the police interviews, that relate to what was going on in the main bulk of the story, taking place at the camp. So we saw what outsiders thought, and then see what happened through Kayla's eyes.
That ending, though! I mean, there were only so many ways this story could've gone, but I wasn't expecting it to go in that direction. But it made sense in a creepy way, all those little details. It was such a thrilling ending, and couldn't put it down, it was fantastic!
This was such a great read, I really enjoyed it, and I need to read more by Anica Mrose Rissi!
