Week 38 Review: Kingsbane

From Goodreads:
The #1 LibraryReads Pick author of Furyborn is back with the second book in the epic New York Times bestselling Empirium Trilogy!

Rielle Dardenne has been anointed Sun Queen, but her trials are far from over. The Gate keeping the angels at bay is falling. To repair it, Rielle must collect the seven hidden castings of the saints. Meanwhile, to help her prince and love Audric protect Celdaria, Rielle must spy on the angel Corien—but his promises of freedom and power may prove too tempting to resist.

Centuries later, Eliana Ferracora grapples with her new reality: She is the Sun Queen, humanity's long-awaited savior. But fear of corruption—fear of becoming another Rielle—keeps Eliana's power dangerous and unpredictable. Hunted by all, racing against time to save her dying friend Navi, Eliana must decide how to wear a crown she never wanted by embracing her mother's power or rejecting it forever.

My Review:
Yeah, wow, I loved reading this book! I loved the first so much, and I loved diving into this world with these characters again! And yeah, so much happened in this book, we learned more about how the Angels ended up in the Deep, and there was a small, but important, reveal about Corien. And I can't wait for the final book next month!

I'm not sure which Queen I enjoyed reading about more, Rielle or Eliana. Rielle just has a touch of darkness, she does want things that might not be good for the world. And Eliana, who doesn't want to be her mom, and who is dealing with the trauma from the previous book.

On Rielle's side, there's the quest to get the castings of the saints, and dealing with Corien. And on Eliana's side, there's dealing with using her magic, and trying to save Rielle from making the mistakes she originally made. I enjoyed switching between their different perspectives, because it left so many mini-cliffhangers each chapter!

That ending! I mean, it's a middle book in a trilogy, of course things are going to end poorly in the end. That it's going to be some sort of cliffhanger. And boy, did this book hit right in the feels, on both ends! I can't wait to see how it's going to end!

This was such a fantastic read, I enjoyed it so much, and I need the final book!
