Week 50 Reviews: The Lost Sisters, The Wicked King

Sometimes the difference between a love story and a horror story is where the ending comes . . .

While Jude fought for power in the Court of Elfhame against the cruel Prince Cardan, her sister Taryn began to fall in love with the trickster, Locke.

Half-apology and half-explanation, it turns out that Taryn has some secrets of her own to reveal.

The Lost Sisters is a companion e-novella to the New York Times bestselling novel The Cruel Prince by master writer Holly Black.

The enchanting and bloodthirsty sequel to the New York Times bestselling novel The Cruel Prince -- now in paperback!

You must be strong enough to strike and strike and strike again without tiring.

The first lesson is to make yourself strong.

After the jaw-dropping revelation that Oak is the heir to Faerie, Jude must keep her younger brother safe. To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.

When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.

My Review:
It was so great to read these books! I loved having some time in Taryn's perspective, explaining what happened in The Cruel Prince. And then more of Jude, dealing with being the hand behind the puppet king, Cardan. They were both so great to read!

Oh, man, The Lost Sisters was a really great read. I loved seeing things from Taryn's view, of her trying to apologize, to reconnect with her sister again. But I doubt that Jude actually gets that, given the events of The Wicked King!

Speaking of, it was just so amazing! As Jude learned in the prologue, it's easier to take power than it is to keep it. And she's in a pretty tough position, being human in the Faerie world, having a lot of power over the one who supposedly runs said world. And there's threats coming at her from all sides, including her adoptive father, also known as the guy who killed her actual parents. Yeah.

But that ending? Wow, that was just intense, so much happened, and those final scenes, I mean, I couldn't believe what was happening! But I need to read The Queen of Nothing! I'm so glad that I waited to read this series, because now the only gap between reading these books is of my own choice and schedule, and not of the publishing schedule, because they're all out!

Loved reading these stories, they were so great, and I can't wait to see how the series ends!
