Embrace the seductive call of the latest novel in Christine Feehan's #1 New York Times bestselling Carpathian series.
Vasilisa Sidkorolyavolkva is a Lycan of royal blood. She knows what is expected of her, but all she wants is to be out from under her family's watchful eyes. There is a fire inside her that is building. A restlessness coupled with a sense of growing dread. Every day she feels the weight of the legacy passed down through generations. The prophecy that says a man will come to claim her as his mate, and that she will guard his soul. She knows nothing about him except that he is hers. But nothing seems real until the night she meets him in the flesh....
Afanasiv Belan is a Carpathian, an ancient one. In all the centuries of his existence, no one has ever affected him like Vasilisa. He can see into her mind and feel what is in her heart. They are so alike, warriors bound by honor and plagued by secrets. They both know they must reveal the darkest parts of their souls if they hope to survive and protect the ones they love.
But if they claim each other as lifemates, it will change them down to the bone. They will become something more--something feared by both of their kinds....
My Review:
I loved reading this book! I love the series, and this latest one continued the plot line introduced in Dark Tarot, with these ladies connected to the tarot cards, with the Carpathian male trapped in the gate that connects to the Underworld.
It was really great to watch these two, I loved their relationship. They're equals, and while he's an ancient, he's not one of the ones that needs to keep his woman safe at home, he knows she has the skills to protect herself. There is some of that protectiveness, but worrying is only natural, he doesn't try and keep her away from the action.
Vasilisa was trained differently from her siblings. Her mom knew that she had the potential to be a lifemate to a Carpathian, and so acted accordingly. Plus there's the responsibility of the gate. It's been a while since there were Lycans as a focus in this series, but having a lycan and a Carpathian together? Then you have to take into account that she's royal, it puts extra pressure on that situation, especially since the Sacred Circle, which is against the Sange rau.
This book starts off right away, and there was plenty going on, from the government people who are poking around to the fact that there's a traitor in their midst. Plus Vasilisa is part of the ongoing plot with the gate. That there seems to be a lot of Dragonseekers around, that a mage might be involved with the hatred being stirred up in the Sacred Circle, and Siv's personal history with Lilith, yeah, there was a lot going on! I loved watching everything go down, it was such an entertaining read!
This was a really great read, and I can't wait for the next installment!
