Week 38 Review: Nona the Ninth

From Goodreads:
Her city is under siege.

The zombies are coming back.

And all Nona wants is a birthday party.

In many ways, Nona is like other people. She lives with her family, has a job at her local school, and loves walks on the beach and meeting new dogs. But Nona's not like other people. Six months ago she woke up in a stranger's body, and she's afraid she might have to give it back.

The whole city is falling to pieces. A monstrous blue sphere hangs on the horizon, ready to tear the planet apart. Blood of Eden forces have surrounded the last Cohort facility and wait for the Emperor Undying to come calling. Their leaders want Nona to be the weapon that will save them from the Nine Houses. Nona would prefer to live an ordinary life with the people she loves, with Pyrrha and Camilla and Palamedes, but she also knows that nothing lasts forever.

And each night, Nona dreams of a woman with a skull-painted face...

My Review:
Wow, this book was so fantastic! I've loved this world from the beginning, and the second book was wild, and this one as well! I loved watching Nona's story, she's such an interesting character, and boy were there developments in the plot!

It kinda feels like, with each book. Tamsyn Muir is stretching a different creative muscle. The first book was pretty normal, though it had that mix of sci fi and fantasy. The next was mostly told in 2nd person. And this one? It wasn't as hard to know what was going on, but I still didn't know what the heck was going on!

The fact that this book wasn't supposed to exist, that the series was supposed to be a trilogy of full length books, but that the character of Nona was liked so much that she got her own story? I'm so glad for that, this was such a great read!

This book focused on the wider world beyond the Nine Houses. And learning these details, it makes you reconsider what you've learned in the previous books. And oh, I just wanted to give Nona a hug, because this world is brutal, and while for the first half, things are slow, the second, they're much faster, and she learns a few vital, horrible lessons. And oh, that ending? That was utterly an evil cliffhanger!

This was an amazing read, and I'm dying for the final book now!
