Week 38 Review: Go Hunt Me

From Goodreads:
For Dracula lovers and fans of Diana Urban's All Your Twisted Secrets, this spine-tingling thriller follows seven horror buffs as their dream trip to a remote Romanian castle turns into a nightmare when they begin to be killed one by one.

Alex Rush is ready for the trip of a lifetime.

She and her friends have made some creepily awesome films together throughout high school, so with only a few months left before they go their separate ways for college, they're determined to make the best one yet: an epic short film that reimagines the story of Dracula, filmed on location at a remote castle in Romania.

But when they get there, it's not quite the majestic setting they planned for. Menacing weapons line the walls, the twisted halls are easy to get lost in, and with no connection to the outside world, the group is unexpectedly off the grid. After just a few hours spent under its roof, Alex and her friends have no trouble imagining how this dark, terrifying castle inspired one of the most enduring horror novels of all time.

Only soon they no longer have to use their imaginations to understand the location's terrifying history—just as they get the film's first shot rolling, one of Alex's friends disappears, and she's nearly certain she saw a cloaked stranger lurking in the shadows. As more members of the group begin to meet an untimely demise, Alex is desperate to stop the bloodshed, even if it means facing a monster she never thought would be let loose.

My Review:
This book was spooky and fantastic! I've enjoyed Kelly deVos's books before, and I was excited what she would do with a mystery, and she didn't disappoint! Set in the backdrop of the house where the inspiration for Dracula lived, this book had all the atmosphere it needed to make an amazing book!

We meet this group of friends who are making a short film, all of them in some way aiming to use it to get into college. But only some of them do. But when a go fund me and a famous actress come together, they get a chance to lengthen their film for a better chance to get into college. But things start going wrong as soon as they arrive in Romania.

A big part of this book was of monsters, of the guys in the movie industry and the power that they have, and how the girls who have to work twice as hard to accomplish half as much. How Jax got in with a recut version of her movie, and she didn't, since he cut the monologues that pointed out this power dynamic out.

Almost all of these characters were holding secrets, some more deadlier than others. And as the bodies started to pile up, some questionable choices were made, and I loved watching the chaos unfold, I had to know what was going to happen next!

That final reveal? That was stunning, and I loved how that turned everything that we thought we knew on its heels. I would've really liked more details about how it was all done, and how things worked out, but loved that ending!

Loved reading this book, and I can't wait to read more by Kelly deVos!
