Week 5 Review: Wild

From Goodreads:
The forest is full of secrets, and no one understands that better than Cade. Foraging, hunting, surviving— that's all he knows. Alone for years, Cade believes he's the sole survivor. At least, until he catches a glimpse of a beautiful stranger…

Dara expected to find natural wonders when she set off for a spring break camping trip. Instead, she discovers a primitive boy— he's stealthy and handsome and he might be following her. Intrigued, Dara seeks him out and sets a catastrophe in motion.

Thrust back into society, Cade struggles with the realization that the life he knew was a lie. But he's not the only one. Trying to explain life in a normal town leaves Dara questioning it.

As the media swarm and the police close in, Dara and Cade risk everything to get closer. But will the truth about Cade's past tear them apart?

A YA Tarzan retelling.

My Review:
I knew how long this book was. There was 311 pages on my nook. But when I was reading it, it just seemed like there was so much more! I mean, part of that was how small the font was, but still! This was such a great book!

I really enjoyed the beginning, where Cade was in his element, and Dara and Josh were on their camping getaway. And the dynamics there were just really interesting! And in real contrast with
the rest of the book, when Cade is out in our world.

So Cade was really interesting! He's been raised in the woods by his parents, and they've since died, leaving him on his own since he was around 13 years old. But they taught him survival, and incorrectly, as of yet, that the world had pretty much ended because of a disease or something similar.

Between everyone wanting to know the truth about Cade, well, yeah, he was pretty interesting! But he wasn't raised by wolves, he wasn't the missing link, and yeah, he knows how to read. But yeah, I really enjoyed how they figured out how to stop the media attention!

I really enjoyed this book, it was really quite good! Can't wait to read another Alex Mallory book!

Week 5 Review: Blood Infernal

From Goodreads:
In a masterpiece of supernatural mystery and apocalyptic prophecy, New York Times bestselling authors James Rollins and Rebecca Cantrell bring to a thunderous conclusion their epic trilogy of novels set between the worlds of shadow and light, between salvation and damnation, where the very gates of Hell must be shattered to discover the true fate of humankind in...

Blood Infernal

As an escalating scourge of grisly murders sweeps the globe, archaeologist Erin Granger must decipher the truth behind an immortal prophecy foretold in the Blood Gospel, a tome written by Christ and lost for centuries: The shackles of Lucifer have been loosened, and his Chalice remains lost. It will take the light of all three to forge the Chalice anew and banish him again to his eternal darkness. With the Apocalypse looming, Erin must again join forces with Army Sergeant Jordan Stone and Father Rhun Korza to search for a treasure lost for millennia. But the prize has already fallen into the hands of their enemy, a demon named Legion, before whom even the walls of the Vatican will fall.

The search for the key to salvation will take Erin and the others across centuries and around the world, from the dusty shelves of the Vatican’s secret archives to lost medieval laboratories, where ancient alchemies were employed to horrific ends. All the while, they are hunted, besieged by creatures of uncanny skill and talent. As clues are dug free from ancient underground chapels and found frozen in icy mountain caverns, Erin will discover that the only hope for victory lies in an impossible act—one that will destroy not only her, but all she loves. To protect the world, Erin must walk through the very gates of Hell and face the darkest of enemies: Lucifer himself.

With The Blood Gospel, the first novel in the Order of the Sanguines series, James Rollins and Rebecca Cantrell combined science, myth, and religion to introduce a breathtaking world where miracles hold new meaning and the fight for good over evil is far more complicated than we ever dreamed. And now, in this epic conclusion to the Sanguines trilogy, Blood Infernal, they take us to the very pit of Hell itself, making us peer into the abyss and face our greatest fears, to answer the ultimate question: What price will we pay for true salvation?

My Review:
This book was really freaking fantastic! I enjoyed it so much, it was just so good! Taking place in March-and only in a few days, with a ton of travel, in that limited time-a lot happens. There were call backs to the last book, which was really great, since I remembered a bit of it, I didn't remember it all!

I really liked the idea of awareness and mind fullness, that the Sanguines haven't had to punish themselves like they have, but know what they are, but to control themselves. It's a bittersweet idea, but ultimately, probably better from them in the long run!

Most of the locations that they went to were in and around Europe. Lots of Italy, Prague, then France. So a lot going on there. But it was the team working together, Erin, the Woman of Learning, Jordan, the Warrior of Man, and Rhun, his title I forget but something about, maybe Knight of the Church? And then Elizabeth with her knowledge, and then Christian and Sophia as guards!

I really enjoyed the big plot line of the green diamond, and where that leads. Because it was the one that was at the end of Innocent Blood, and it was in the prologue of this book, and yeah, it's pretty important to the whole book!

Another thing I really liked, were the tests the group had to face-Rhun with saving the lion cub, Jordan with not protecting himself and not hurting the creature, going as far as to protect it with his own life as it was killing him, and then Erin figuring out where they needed to go for the final battle, and where the object was. Really great!

Lastly, the big thing that I really liked, was how that little scarp at the beginning, that I almost forgot, lead to be so important for how the big, final battle happened! And that was a hard choice, but personally, I felt that it only destroyed Erin, it didn't destroy Jordan. And then it was all good, but it was a bittersweet moment!

This was such a fantastic book, loved where it ended because it was so freaking good, and yeah, I was so happy to read this book!

Week 5 Review: Lord of Legends

From Goodreads:
He is Arion, King of the Unicorns. Powerful, seductive, he could possess any female he desired—until now. He is condemned to live as a man, and it is only the enchanting Lady Mariah Donnington's innocence that can release him from his curse.

Abandoned on her wedding night, frightened of her hidden, otherworldly heritage, Mariah is instinctively drawn to the mysterious stranger she discovers imprisoned on her husband's estate. But as the secret of Arion's magical identity unfolds, their friendship burns into a passion that cannot, must not, be consummated. For to do so would destroy them both.

My Review:
I enjoyed rereading this book a lot! I had forgotten most of it, besides that they went somewhere together for a bit of the book, and they ended up together. But this time, it was much richer, because I'd read The Forest Lord and Lord of the Beasts, because Nola has now been in 2 of them. And apparently is in 4, since she's the female star of Lord of Sin!

So there was a lot of back and forth, on who was betraying who, and there was a lot of complicated schemes between Cairbre, Donnington, and unwillingly, but wanting to go home, Arion. So keeping that straight was a bit hard!

I wanted to shake St. John Ware. I mean, obviously, Pamela was using him. I thought that he was still just playing with her, but nope, he was a sucker, and thought that she actually loved him. Nope, she loved his brother!

The ending was very action packed! Between the action on both sides, well, yeah, Mariah has a lot to do! She rallied the unicorns, faked being insane, and took a bullet. And then convinced the unicorns to help their king one last time. And then that's just her side! There was just a lot going on, and it was just so good!

I really enjoyed rereading this book, it was really entertaining, now, hopefully to read Lord of Sin soon!

Week 5 Review: Fairest

From Goodreads:
In this stunning bridge book between Cress and Winter in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles, Queen Levana's story is finally told.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Who is the fairest of them all?

Fans of the Lunar Chronicles know Queen Levana as a ruler who uses her "glamour" to gain power. But long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress, Levana lived a very different story – a story that has never been told . . . until now.

Marissa Meyer spins yet another unforgettable tale about love and war, deceit and death. This extraordinary book includes full-color art and an excerpt from Winter, the next book in the Lunar Chronicles series

My Review:
This book, it was just so...it. I mean, it's a book about the main villain of the series, the big bad. And yeah, she's pretty evil in this one. Not evil in evil laugh, but she doesn't care about other's emotions too much, she was callous, and she had thoughts like her parent's blood would be a good make up thing. And this blood had been shed while they were dying. They had just died. Yeah.

We find out why she keeps her face covered-because she's been told her whole life she was ugly. And then when she was young, her sister used her lunar abilities on her to burn half her face, and her arm up to her side. Which is a pretty good reason to hide!

So in this book, Selena, who will become Cinder, was burned to death, and she had a heart-beat, but that the doctor wasn't able to save her. I forget, but I thought that her death had something with only having her foot and arm being all that was about to get DNA out of her body. And a fire, I thought that would leave more, especially if the doctor could get a heartbeat? Or am I confusing things and situations and timing?

The whole thing with her husband? That she thought that he was in love with her? And obsessed over that? And the whole situation there? And that after 10 years of marriage, because she wanted to be the Fairest queen, she arranges to have him killed? Yeah, but at least she kills the guy who killed Evret instead of marrying him like she told him. That kind of trickery is why she's the Queen!

Favourite lines: "Resources. You're telling me that we cannot continue to grow our economy because we are living on a rock." This just drips sarcasm! Love! She's so evil!

This was a really fantastic book, and I just really want to read Winter! But I know I have to reread the whole series first! Though I don't think I'll need to reread this...

Shadow of the Moon (Fury)

Where Angels Fear to Tread (Zeke)

Fear the Darkness (First Time in Print)

House of the Rising Son (First Time in Print)

Unrelated Stories:

Love Bytes

Santa Wears Spurs

My Review:
This was such a great book! I mean, there was mostly stories that had been published before, but now they're all together, which was really great! And there are some new ones, the main one being House of the Rising Son, which is the story of Styxx and Bethany's first romance and first life!

So House of the Rising Son really made me want to read parts of Styxx over. Which I did. And I found, that I think that time that a demon attacks Styxx, that it was Caleb, because Caleb was the one that led the 6 person group!

In Phantom Lover, at the beginning, I thought that the dragon might be the one for her. But then the story went on, and it was V'Aiden who was for. But then I just loved the twist, that V'Aiden was the dragon. Because yeah, it complicated things. But I enjoyed how it all ended, really great!

Love Bytes is going on that list that I've been meaning compile. Yeah! Now I'm finally going to make it, I won't lose out on books that I've read and then have forgotten! "Pete had been called a lot of things  over the years, but this was the first time anyone had referred to his brother as St. Nick," For good reason!

Favourite line from Santa Wears Spurs: "Woman, right now I have a loaded gun just waiting to...Did I just say that out loud?" Oh, that's just so cute!

This was a really fantastic collection, and now I'm really pumped for Dragonbane!

Death Marked by Leah Cypress
Expected Publication: March 3rd, 2015
From Goodreads:
A young sorceress’s entire life has been shaped to destroy the empire controlling her world. But if everything she knows is a lie, will she even want to fulfill her destiny? The sequel to Death Sworn is just as full of magic and surprising revelations, and will thrill fans of Leigh Bardugo and Robin LaFevers.

At seventeen, Ileni lost her magical power and was exiled to the hidden caves of the assassins. She never thought she would survive long. But she discovered she was always meant to end up, powerless, in the caves as part of an elder sorcerer’s plan to destroy the evil Empire they'd battled so long. Except that Ileni is not an assassin, and she doesn't want to be a weapon. And, after everything, she’s not even sure she knows the truth. Now, at the very heart of the Empire—its academy for sorcerers—the truth is what she seeks. What she finds challenges every belief she holds dear—and it threatens her fledgling romance with the young master of assassins.

Leah Cypess spins an intricate and beautiful conclusion to Ileni's story. In the end, it may not be the epic decisions that bring down an empire, but the small ones that pierce the heart.

Bone Gap by Laura Ruby
Expected Publication: March 3rd, 2015
From Goodreads:
Everyone knows Bone Gap is full of gaps—gaps to trip you up, gaps to slide through so you can disappear forever. So when young, beautiful Roza went missing, the people of Bone Gap weren’t surprised. After all, it wasn’t the first time that someone had slipped away and left Finn and Sean O’Sullivan on their own. Just a few years before, their mother had high-tailed it to Oregon for a brand new guy, a brand new life. That’s just how things go, the people said. Who are you going to blame?

Finn knows that’s not what happened with Roza. He knows she was kidnapped, ripped from the cornfields by a dangerous man whose face he cannot remember. But the searches turned up nothing, and no one believes him anymore. Not even Sean, who has more reason to find Roza than anyone, and every reason to blame Finn for letting her go.

As we follow the stories of Finn, Roza, and the people of Bone Gap—their melancholy pasts, their terrifying presents, their uncertain futures—acclaimed author Laura Ruby weaves a heartbreaking tale of love and loss, magic and mystery, regret and forgiveness—a story about how the face the world sees is never the sum of who we are.

Dead to Me by Mary McCoy
Expected Publication: March 3rd, 2015
From Goodreads:
LA Confidential for the YA audience. This alluring noir YA mystery with a Golden Age Hollywood backdrop will keep you guessing until the last page.

"Don't believe anything they say."

Alice spent four years waiting and wondering when the impossibly glamorous sister she idolized would return to her--and what their Hollywood-insider parents had done to drive her away.

When Annie does turn up, the blond, broken stranger lying in a coma has no answers for her. But Alice isn't a kid anymore, and this time she won't let anything stand between her and the truth, no matter how ugly. The search for those who beat Annie and left her for dead leads Alice into a treacherous world of tough-talking private eyes, psychopathic movie stars, and troubled starlets--and onto the trail of a young runaway who is the sole witness to an unspeakable crime. What this girl knows could shut down a criminal syndicate and put Annie's attacker behind bars--if Alice can find her first. And she isn't the only one looking

Evoking classic film noir, debut novelist Mary McCoy brings the dangerous glamour of Hollywood's Golden Age to life, where the most decadent parties can be the deadliest, and no drive into the sunset can erase the crimes of past.

Oh, what a great selection of books coming out then! I've already read Death Marked, and hopefully I'm close to reading Bone Gap and Dead to Me, since I want to up my stats of reviews! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Teaser Tuesday #198, January 27th

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
•Grab your current read
•Open to a random page
•Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
•BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)
•Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Today's teaser comes from Winter Born in Dark Bites by Sherrilyn Kenyon, page 230.

"Nah. She'll do what I said...Then again, I didn't tell her to not eat a Bajoran or Romulan. Damn. You're right. I better go count."

Oh, Simi, the things Ash goes through for you! So cute! So funny!

New York Times bestselling author Deanna Raybourn returns with a Jazz Age tale of grand adventure

On the verge of a stilted life as an aristocrat's wife, Poppy Hammond does the only sensible thing—she flees the chapel in her wedding gown. Assisted by the handsome curate who calls himself Sebastian Cantrip, she spirits away to her estranged father's quiet country village, pursued by the family she left in uproar. But when the dust of her broken engagement settles and Sebastian disappears under mysterious circumstances, Poppy discovers there is more to her hero than it seems.

With only her feisty lady's maid for company, Poppy secures employment and travels incognita—east across the seas, chasing a hunch and the whisper of clues. Danger abounds beneath the canopies of the silken city, and Poppy finds herself in the perilous sights of those who will stop at nothing to recover a fabled ancient treasure. Torn between allegiance to her kindly employer and a dashing, shadowy figure, Poppy will risk it all as she attempts to unravel a much larger plan—one that stretches to the very heart of the British government, and one that could endanger everything, and everyone, that she holds dear.

"Raybourn skillfully balances humor and earnest, deadly drama, creating well-drawn characters and a rich setting." —Publishers Weekly on Dark Road to Darjeeling
Famed Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon answers an unexpected summons to appear at the U.S. Capitol Building. His planned lecture is interrupted when a disturbing object—artfully encoded with five symbols—is discovered in the building. Langdon recognizes in the find an ancient invitation into a lost world of esoteric, potentially dangerous wisdom. When his mentor Peter Solomon—a longstanding Mason and beloved philanthropist—is kidnapped, Langdon realizes that the only way to save Solomon is to accept the mystical invitation and plunge headlong into a clandestine world of Masonic secrets, hidden history, and one inconceivable truth . . . all under the watchful eye of Dan Brown's most terrifying villain to date. Set within the hidden chambers, tunnels, and temples of Washington, D.C., The Lost Symbol is an intelligent, lightning-paced story with surprises at every turn--Brown's most exciting novel yet.
The Rand scientific expedition entered the lush wilderness of the Amazon and never returned. Years later, one of its members has stumbled out of the world’s most inhospitable rainforest—a former Special Forces soldier, scarred, mutilated, terrified, and mere hours from death, who went in with one arm missing . . . and came out with both intact. Unable to comprehend this inexplicable event, the government sends Nathan Rand into this impenetrable secret world of undreamed-of perils to follow the trail of his vanished father . . . toward mysteries that must be solved at any cost. But the nightmare that is awaiting Nate and his team of scientists and seasoned U.S. Rangers dwarfs any danger they anticipated . . . an ancient, unspoken terror—a power beyond human imagining—that can forever alter the world beyond the dark, lethal confines of Amazonia.
A hot debut trilogy and a riveting story of survival, courage, and romance in a future where creating a master civilization is the only thing prized, no matter the method. After the Omega (the end of the end), 16 year old guys known as LTs discover their overseers are raising them not to be soldiers (lieutenants) as promised, but to be sold as bait because of their Less Than status and hunted for sport. They escape and join forces with a girls’ camp, the Sisters, who have been imprisoned and experimented on for the "good of the Republic," by a government eager to use twins in their dark research. In their plight for freedom, these heroes must find the best in themselves to fight against the worst in their enemies.
